KyleAnschuetz wrote:Hello board I am working on a mystery, and I would love some help.

One, I can`t upload photos on this computer to the library (no idea why), and so if you would kindly look at the pictures at this link (it`s OneDrive): https://1drv.ms/i/s!AvHCnwTgWisSuwOYdOeb_6cXPo03

I think it`s a horn, but I have two horns already(the normal style) So I think someone just added it, but I`d love to know your thoughts.

Two, my title says it`s a 1972, but I`m not sure. I have the older style steering wheel, but I don`t have the rectangular lights on the fenders. If you could look at this picture: https://1drv.ms/i/s!AvHCnwTgWisSsHx_T7cp3jsgl7-P and maybe this one: https://1drv.ms/i/s!AvHCnwTgWisSuShEEWLuKTqKjoF- to help.

Thanks for all your help! Without this board, my Patrol would`ve never made it back to life (which is still a hopeful thing at this point...)
I've looked at your pictures, and the steering wheel is not the older style (3 metal spokes), but rather the one that came in 1969, until the end of production.

I've also looked at the horn, and I think it's an added one.

Regarding your pictures, maybe try reducing the size a little bit, up to 1280 pixels wide. Hope RiverPatrol can shed some light about the pictures.

Glad to see you're making progress with your Patrol.

Hi Kyle,

I clicked "View Original" on your OneDrive page, right-click copied the image to my PC, resized it to < 2MB, uploaded it to the 60Patrol gallery and then right-clicked "copy image address" and added it to this post. There may be a simpler way to go about it but that worked for me...

Board,

I come once again for your knowledge,

How do I separate my transmission from transfer case. I have the bolts off and all it does is move like 1/8"

thanks!

The transfer case is still attached to the rear of the transmission main shaft.

1. You have to remove the rear cover directly in line with the transmission,
2. Bend back the lock washer, and remove the nut of the main shaft.
3. Remove the pinion from the shaft
4. Slide out the transfer case

I think mine is still useable, the only problem is that the paint is starting to peel, and someone free handed in some mph translations.

Board,

I would like to do a Weber Carb.

Which one of these should I get:

option 1 supposedly good for a nissan swap...:
https://www.amazon.com/MAZDA-NISSAN-ISU ... ber+nissan

option 2 just the carb manual choke (100$ more):
https://www.amazon.com/Weber-Redline-Ca ... 2F36+weber

Electric Choke:
https://www.amazon.com/Weber-Redline-Ca ... 2F36+weber

I was going with this adapter:

Your probably jumping the gun a bit with that thought. Getting it running first before making a modification like that would be easier. It's been many years since someone has done a Weber install on a Patrol so there is not any solid information as to what works. Unless someone else has the details and can provide them of course.
Beyond any hope for intervention

The carb I have currently leaks. I could probably fix it, but since I am having head work done to the engine I`d rather drop in a carb better suited for the application. I am hoping someone can weigh in on the carb situation  as my lady offered to buy me a carb as a graduation present :D .

I got the Tcase and Trans painted today along with the shifter linkages. It is all black glass as I couldn't find a blue that matched very well. I placed a 2700 dollar order for fenders, torpedo panels, a floor section, and rear panels from Troa. I worked with Claudia. She was very easy to work with and kept me well informed during the whole process and even called me twice to check on things. I`ll update the board when I get the parts in.

i have two carbs currently and wanted the boards opinion on what they are.

Carb one that was in a box of parts with the Patrol:
5666

Carb two that was running, but leaking a little:
5665

Now that I can upload pictures here is one of me with my Patrol when I picked her up:
5664

I am still confused on year. I have the later model steering wheel, but I have the regular circle style lights.

I was thinking about using these mirrors on my fenders:
https://www.amazon.com/Universal-Square ... der+mirror

Thanks again for all the information and help!

Kyle,

The rectangular light on the fenders for 69 was a US market option only. The rest of the world kept the circle lights. The only changes made where going from glass to plastic lenses over the years, and then to two lights, when they switched to the European standard for lights, like are now very common. The Patrolabilia section of the forum has excellent material with brochures from different years.

Regarding the carbs:

The first one is the original Hitachi carb. The Hitachi logo is showing there. It is a so so carburetor at best. Extremely simple. The accelerator pump is driven by a plastic cam that is on the outside. This cam wears often and the carb develops a flat spot. It might be difficult to source a spare cam, but making a metal one could be done with lots of patience. This carb has plenty of high end power, but nothing else. Fuel economy is not great also. For years I had a 74 with that same carb. I still might have a couple of components, but no gaskets. Let me check. Regarding parts, repair kits are probably available in Colombia and Australia, although the Aussie one might have some differences because of antipollution components.

The other carb is a Carter, but not sure about the model. I've been running a Carter YF 1-V carburetor on mine for over 15 years, and I think it works very smoothly, and best of all, you've have plenty of parts available. Mine came from a 1980 Bronco with a 6 cyl inline 300 cid. I only changed the automatic choke for a manual one. You can probably source a repair kit for your Carter.

Mirrors: too sensitive the topic
