well just finished removing the spotties, electric brakes, air horns, old mirrors and installed my NOS mirrors.

The UHF antenna will go, just not right now.

Saturday 26th April 2008
Just been down to our local dirt patch for a bash.

First up it was a pain getting the left hand wheel locked, so had to move the car forward 1 foot forward and try again.

So started off down the trail, first though was gez she is bumpy and carried on. Stopped and took some photos, crossed a creek, up a hill which started getting harder.

Had to do a little rock packing but was impressed. Main good factor is the clearance on these babies is unreal. Rear open diff was a issue so you had to rock up ledges.






Whilst packaging heard a rustle and found a small lizard


Just up here started getting to hard for a quick run, doable but just not that interested today




Also didn’t like the crawl speed, way to high.

Anyhow decided enough was enough and tried to turn around. Went forward into a hole and heard like “FIRE” crackling. 1st impression was the exhaust manifold was catching some grass onfire.

Reversed back and popped the bonnet. No fire but oil smoke. I had oil all over the manifold “$HIT” was the only though going through my mind.





Sat there for ages waiting for the temp to go down and ended up driving out but stopping frequently to check.

My diagnosis is the extreme angles caused the oil to come out the oil filler. Possible also the rocker gasket needs changing. Will need to degrease and look for leaks. Oil level was fine ?

Got home with a big sigh of relief.

Well drove the 73 up north to place in storage for a while as I have access to a garage. She did the 150 mile trip easily and no dramas. Dropped into Frdy's and washed and waxed her. Then took a million photos just for reference.

Back in storage

Well big weekend working on that garage for the 73.

After a hectic Friday morning packing building supplies, car, dogs, tools, the list goes on I departed early afternoon. Worked into late Friday night doing the 1 course of bricks to form the wall foundations. Saturday saw the framing go up along with all the cement board sheets. Sunday was the continued framing and more nails.

In short was a huge weekend and very pleased the wall is all done except for the paint shop stuffing the paint color up, they closed at 12 midday before we realized. Have one noggin to do as ran out of wood , along with exterior trim to cover the edges and seems. In short very pleased.

Next trip will see the garage door go up, and then the filling above the garage door. One step closer to finished garage for the 73. Didn’t get home until 10:20pm Sunday night and after working 12 hours day and a lot of lifting and just working hard, can barley move a muscle here at work.

Well started working on the 73, installed the black seats I had from the green MWB years ago, fit nicely bu =t the drivers is more angled back, feels like a jap ricer with your seat leaning way far back, so miht install the good original drivers seat, only thing that is the special grey/ black colour scheme.

I was missing one rear seat foot rubber, taking a page from hubatis I went to the hardware and bought some rubber chair feet and doorstop, tried both bu the doorstop had more useable rubber to angle correctly into the 90 degree seam. Also removed some rattle from the rear wheel carrier, installed the Patrol nameplate.

Other major gripe is the rattling from the glass and doorframes, bought some sponge rubber and just stuck already onesided adhesive to the exsisting door rubber, better but you can still hear the glass rattle as the bailey chanel is worn, it's only 37 years old

Pulled the upper frames out to remove the channel, just need to buy some and put back in. thats all for today.

Well rushed down after work to http://www.clarkrubber.com.au and got some bailey channel and weather strip for the inside section, along with a rubber matt to go on the rear floor as the carpet isnt very 70's.

They didnt have the felt square bailey channel so I bought some flexibale stuff which I think is better as it is always pressing against the glass. Where as teh felt will wear back and then the glass will start to wobble and compress the felt even more. Like the top middle one.



So quickly as the light was fading installed the bailey channel in the drivers door, installed the weather strip and chucked it back together. After a few bangs and shaking I'm very impressed as NO NOISE, so cant wait to finish the otherside as I hate rattles with a passion, and driving the 73 with the glass rattles drives me nuts. Also with the rear seats down I get no noise as well. Will be so good

It's all done. I can only see one issue that the glass still bangs on the exposed inside metal of the outside weather strip.

Big day starting at 4:50am working straight untill 5pm.

I am so sore it aint funny, did alot of G60 stuff across all cars

Tol old wheels of the 73, placed on axle stands, went out to Gibbo's (140km return drive) and collected new tyres, back home had tyre shop install new old tyres, old rims for Miller etc.

Still need to install wheels back on 73.
