Did you ever find the right reverse switch with 5/8-18 threads ?

I contacted CPI NJ, and they told me that they deal with production and wholesale orders, but told me that single (retail) orders are handled by:

I never did find a suitable replacement. This one you found just might work. The most critical dimensions are from the shoulder of the hex head mounting surface to the end of the 5/8" - 18 threaded portion, as well as the travel of the ball. If I remember correctly the shift fork rod in the transmission has a substantial groove or detent for the plunger to drop into. The original has a ball shaped end on a rod, not a true ball like this potential replacement. If you insert it, the hex portion seats properly on the transmission while not in reverse and the switch is open, you have a winner. Even if you have to add a washer as shim, it will still work. If it is too short,
no bueno.
Let us know if it works and how much. I still need one.

The dims would have worked out fine as there is 12-13mm between casing and reverse shift rod as you measured, and the corresponding dim on the switch is 17-18mm if I remember right. The switch would have been closed just after the recess in the rod.
Well so I did hear back from Sonny and I had a laugh ...
For single unit sale, the cost is ... wait for it ... $442 because it would be made to order with a 2-3 week lead time ...
Only with an order of 25pcs does the per item cost drop to $100 and then still it's crazy ... so never mind ...
When I wrote back to the manufacturer (CPI) with a wtf they agreed it was pricey for single unit sale.
They did say that if there was an option to use a different thread / length, that they do sell some more standard units to mcmaster (#7282K11) and grainger (#5DKG0)
Except those are $74 each and 9/16-18 threads instead
