60Patrol

G'Day All,

Does anyone know where I can buy a rebuild kit for my VHA carby?

I'm currently working on rebuilding a January 1977 G60 Patrol. Engine idles really nice, however when pressing the throttle quickly, it almost stalls. If i gradually increase throttle, it revs up fine.

All indications seem to point to the accelerator pump in the VHA carby which is on it. I have put new points, leads and plugs in.

If this carb has a leather cup on the accelerator pump and it was dry it will shrink. With any luck the leather cup could swell back up and start working. Keep your fingers crossed. I just can't remember if this carb came with the leather pump?

Try East coast Auto Spares there in Melbourne, that's where i got a VHA kit from probably 3 or so years ago now

I had the same problem some time ago. First thing you have to do is inspect the plastic lever (A) if it shows too much wear in the surface where it gets contact with the diaphragm rod (D), or in the two holes, you have to replace it with a new one. Unfortunately it is not included in the NAPCO carb kits; maybe it is in other brand. This should fix your problem, but if not, like in my case, the problem is related with diaphragm rod, it wears with the time and its length gets short enough so the pump can’t move as much fuel as it is necessary when you are depressing the gas pedal. One alternative is to replace to rod for a new one, again it is not included in the kit; so what I did is to make by myself a shortest link (B) in order to allow more stroke in the rod and consequently more volume in the pump. Now my Patrol works much better.

Hi all, Its had me thinking why is my VHA different to every other one I have seen. Its still got me think, but besides where the power valve goes through the top of the bowl, on my VHA there is another type thingy next to it, Attached are some photos of what it looks like, does anyone know why its got this on it ?

HT409 - Hitachi VC42 61- 1/69
HT410 - Hitachi VHA 2/69- 80

Correct me if I am wrong, but that's what fuel miser book said

I'm confused. My 69 has a VC42a & its production date is 6-69.

Keith, by the sounds of things your carby has been changed and someone's bolted the VC42 to the manifold, a aussie patroller over here, recently purchased a 76 model with a VC42 on it, definitely been swapped.

None of the US Patrols came with the VHA carb.
