Crown moulding in the garage. You're in the wrong country.

Hey River, not sure what you mean by or about the crown moulding.
Where I live it is call cornice.
Is this moulding not allowed in a garage???

Cornice would be the appropriate translation.

Here in the US most the most common upgrade to a home when remodeling is crown moulding, second most popular would be granite/stone counter tops. I have seen many custom garages, never one with crown moulding. You win the prize.

I see, I can't think of a residence over here that does not get crowns from time of first build.
In my particular case, the ceiling in my garage is sloped and raised for extra clearance and a feeling of roominess, hence the ceiling meets the wall at a 22 degree angle and would have looked totally unfinished without crowns as you call them.

We, literally dont have a stick of wood in my house construction.
All the external walls are face brick with a cavity and brick internal wallls throughout.
The roof structure is all extruded steel sections and tek screwed together.
My roof cover is terracotta spanish style tiles which interestingly enough are nailed to the steel section roof battens using special burded nails...
Only lumber related items are doors and cabinets...

Construction is obviously less expensive there then.

In the east brick is used more frequently. Here in CA residential construction is all wood, because wood flexes during earthquakes. Bricks just fall on your head.

For my location, at the time of settlement a very long time ago, the lumber quality was probably not what you would hope for to use in construction, so supply originally was used for roof structures mostly.
I think the junk wood was used to fire the kilns that made bricks.
Clay for bricks was plentiful and eventually made roof tiles as well.

Trouble is, while what we have was a very solid construction method/s, we have been slow to change and the old story that we've always done it that way so why change.
In the late 1960's we saw our first serious earth tremor and I recall as a teenager watching the living room brickwall wave as the quake continued.
That was a wake up call and over the next 50 years between economics, good science and greater appreciation for the local conditions things have changed.
Another consideration here was termites and hence folks were reluctant to install too much lumber into a building.
With the advent of treated timbers, good or bad, it has help build confidence for the used of lumber in construction.

We were told using these methods would be quicker and cheaper, but in more recent time with world supply shortages, nothing seems to be certain any more.
Generally. everything has become more expensive and labour shortages have ensured nothing is quick.

It's amazing watching an earthquake make a solid look like a liquid. I've seen concrete generate waves like the ocean, never even cracking.

Yes, that is how I saw it.
Felt like it was an optical illusion or just not real.
I'd never expoerience a quake prior to that even.
It flattened a small town about 100 mile from our capital city of Perth.
Since that time we get small reminders every few years but so far nothing dramatic.
We are aligned with the earthquake belt from Indonesia...

I asked around my old car guys to find a sign guy who helped me get that Apocolypse Now movie theme and he laid it onto the board.

I could not be happier with the result.
Especially for the cost involved it was dirt cheap...
