The new tires look great and the color matching wheels with the body paint contribute a lot. Good decision Robert!

I'm now tempted on buying the same tires and also wheels in 16" dia (sorry, white with 8 spokes )

You can be forgiven for the white-spoke wheel decision. They would look good on your truck, and they are by far the most cost-effective way to go.

Personally, I would choose white-spokes long before I would go with 16-hole modular wheels- JMHO

Just make sure to do one favor: To get the purest, vintage early 1970's look, you must verify that the wheels you order will have the little blue and red pinstripes on them

I think I might know where these wheels and tires are right about now......

Great work Rob. Love the tires. I'm thinking Phoenix Patrol will ride better with smaller more narrow tires, I also think the oversize tires are messing up the torque curve as it seems to "chug" way too quickly. After we get this round of paint, bushings, PTO, soft top with frame I'll look up those tires as I think I have four OEM rims...I think. Of course Phoenix Patrol was sold with four OEM rims but arrived with just two.

I have been reading the zhuan falun. I think there are some chapters that relate to tires, in an esoteric way. After all, how could they not. Your choice of tire, feels right.

Yesterday evening as the sun went down, and the weather cooled off, I printed an insurance card, bolted on the license plate and screwed the original serial number plate back onto the firewall, and made this truck 100% street legal again... Then I went for a 20 minute ride. First time it's been out in traffic in over 5 years.

Nervous? Hell yes I was... That first real drive at speeds greater than 20mph after a frame-off rebuild can (and will) remind you of EVERY bolt you forgot to tighten/torque, and every wire fitting you forgot to snug down, and everything you forgot to adjust correctly.

But, It turned out to be a REALLY fun ride. Ran it up past 60mph a couple times, and cruised it steadily at 50-ish; but the nicest part was how much tighter (and easier) the steering and the suspension felt compered to when it was lifted with the huge tires (and the twisted frame). It ran straight down the center of the road. Very pleased. pulled it back into the driveway with no new follow-ups to add to my punchlist...

and it was a good exercise in refreshing my (very) rusty double-clutching skills...

Good to hear it held up at highway speeds. Also glad to hear it is street legal. The police in AZ have no sense of humor about vehicles that aren’t...so I’ve learned the hard way.
