Re: my 1967 patina project build
just made a couple updates showing some seal part number I have ordered.
the outer seal was 40227-32201 and i had purchased National #1977 but is was not as nice as the original, i have since found that Precision, Timken, and National all offer a part with the number 1012N that look much better and looks like the original part.
https://www.yoyopart.com/oem/10036589/n ... 32201.html
the inner seal was 38212-01300 and found a Toyota part that was the same 90311-35071 and CR, Timken and others show #550223.
https://www.yoyopart.com/oem/10394451/n ... 01300.html
I did my search using nissan and the part number and spotted the YoYo site as an interchange, I have also used KaKaPart in the past... gotta love these interchange site names.

Re: my 1967 patina project build
last weekend I got the real axle mostly assembled. Installed the correct double lip pinion seal in bot axles ( I ordered them on the Amayama site, the are UD parts but the same).

I made mention previously that the short axle had been replaced sometime in the past and here you can see some prior carnage from what looks like a broken axle shaft.
I got all the new inner axle seals in and both sets looked the same, I went ahead and put in the ones that had the Toyota part number from Lazorlite and put the Timken seals in my spare parts box. Cleaned up all the shims and reinstalled the axle shafts. i still need to paint the ends but I decided to clean up all the other suspension parts and do my painting at one time.

Excellent work and nice pictures as always.
You seem to work in a very neatly fashion, and I envy that. It's always a mess around my work.

Re: my 1967 patina project build
I have stuff scattered everywhere. Front axle on main work bench. Replacement engine I thought I was going to use before I found out it needed bored on my second work bench. Then I set up a temp work bench in front of main shop area to assemble the original engine after I got it back from machine shop. I got some of the rotating assembly together before I realize I have room many work places filled. So I decided it was time to get rear axle cleaned and assembled so I could install it back in the Patrol. Then I will be able to get the front axle back in. And then back to the engine after that.

Re: my 1967 patina project build
Got rear axle installed yesterday. The rear springs had been replaced some time in the past and the part number translates to a 1974-1979 Nissan Patrol.

Replaced the sway bar drop links and bushings. The drop links are from Prothane #19-419-BL they are 7-3/8 inch long. the polyurethane bushings were a little too thick so I removed about a 1/16" from each on my bench grinder, prepare for a mess. I used Energy Suspension #9.5124G 20mm bushing kits for the frame mount of the sway bar. I also installed KYB Excel #343219 shocks.

got the rear back on the ground, before any jack stand fatigue set in, with the Super Swampers on FJ40 rims. I still need to build a rear disc setup, but that is for a later date.

I also noticed a little damage to the rear wheel arch from when that rear axle shaft broke sometime in the past. Not sure if the springs were replaced at the same time but one of the fronts was a later style spring also.

I also have some repairs to make on the front leaf spring mount before I can install front axle. Apparently the original pin was replaced in the past with a bolt. This was also the same side on the front that had one of the springs replaced. Maybe they had to cut the old pin out and went with a bolt as a replacement when they replaced the spring??? who knows. Also on a side note the original pin bolt is actually a metric thread, the shackle end is standard much like all the other bolts. The grease zirks are also 10mm hex head.

Quick question. I have the same year same color (green/gray) It looks like your hood prop is gray. Can you confirm this as i'm not sure weather they were green or gray from the factory.

I'm sure they have some sort of galvanizing finish.RiverPatrol wrote:They were unfinished bare metal.

I'm sure you're right. I don't know what type of finish, just that they weren't painted.Esteban wrote:I'm sure they have some sort of galvanizing finish.RiverPatrol wrote:They were unfinished bare metal.

Nissan/Datsun predominately used zinc plating (either clear of yellow). There is some discussion on classiczcars.com if the brake lines where cadmium plated, however nobody has come forward with lab analysis results.
