Sorry to hear that about the Land Cruiser carb.

I think we will need some photos of the base at the intake manifold, along with good measurements. I'm not an expert on carbs, but it seems to me that the blocked passage to the air jet is something fixable. The intake manifold of the P40 engine is aluminum. Maybe your mechanic is looking at something we're missing here.

Also some pictures of the base of the original carb.

Digging some old info that I kept from a defunct forum, a couple of members installed the Weber 32/36 DGV 5A on the P engine, using an adaptor plate to convert from a single to double barrel. The P and P40 engine are the same internally, so carburetor wise, same demand of fuel.

There you'll see that member FG45 faced your same problems, but on a forklift equipped with the P40 engine. He supposedly bought the Weber but never reported. Maybe you can sent him a PM and find out.
