Re: 65 Patrol Rebuild Starts Here
Looking good. Hope you chronicle your trip for us to follow along.
Wish I had a shop like that and tools like those. A darn carport with a few wrenches and a screwdriver just doesn't cut it!

Re: 65 Patrol Rebuild Starts Here
MtnPatrol, Oooohhhhh ......you think that is my shop?.....quite the opposite. I don't have the confidence to tackle a rebuild ......though I'd love nothing more. I watch you guys build these things and wish I could do the same but chaos would follow. You are seeing BAM Automotive in Alpine, Texas. If you have never been to the desert mountains of West Texas you are some missing some incredible country, though the only public land is where we roll, which is another 2.5 hrs SW of Alpine. When not there we fully test our rigs just outside SA in the limestone hills to the NW or the granite outcrops due north. Patrols to Paradise, L60Boerne

Re: 65 Patrol Rebuild Starts Here
I would love to move to Texas or the desert southwest. Warm/hot weather, land, and a reasonable cost of living. However, my dog and I get out into the woods and mountains a lot and I think the rattlesnakes would be an issue for him.

Re: 65 Patrol Rebuild Starts Here
Greetings Patrolees,
I can report the following on this rebuild.
a). Van at BAM Auto in Alpine indicates very little work is required on this Patrol so we are gluing it back together then sending down to El Choppo in Ojinaga, MX for paint & body, a reported master metalcraftsman.
b). It appears Presidio Patrol doesn't have side vents in front of the front doors, is this possible? I think they are hidden under the decal but info in and out of BAM is limited because we don't want to unnecessarily bother them.
c). We have decided to send a picture of Ivan's flat sand and black trimmed convertible and asked El Choppo to copy it.
d). RPM & O found every part we needed included the manual throttle assembly, dash map light and hood mounted front window clamps.
e). I'd like a suspension overhaul with 2" lift from Alcan Spring while at BAM but the speed at which this might happen may eliminate it until it gets back here to Rafael in SA.
e). When finished in early July we will take to Cibalo Creek Ranch for a couple of off road field tests. Then it goes to Colorado for high mountain Patroling.
More to follow,

That's always nice to hear. And to think that the previous owner gave up on it for lack of parts. You win there.L60Boerne wrote:Greetings Patrolees,

Sounds like a great trip. Take lots of pictures!L60Boerne wrote:e). When finished in early July we will take to Cibalo Creek Ranch for a couple of off road field tests. Then it goes to Colorado for high mountain Patroling.

Beyond any hope for intervention

Re: 65 Patrol Rebuild Starts Here
You make a good point RiverPatrol concerning the rust but the exposed steel looked very unrusted, like a NM or AZ vehicle should. But you will likely be found to be accurate.

Re: 65 Patrol Rebuild Starts Here
Greeting Patrolees, Presidio Patrol is now in the paint and body phase through BAM's shop. I hope to get some pics but since it is 400 miles from away I can only request. BAM sent both gauges to APT Instruments (wwwgaugeguys.com) at our request. The cost to restore both to "as new" condition will be $1525 plus shipping. More than we budgeted but what is a Patrolee to do? They will be back in 8 weeks. We hope the paint & body will be finished about that time. Which is about a week short of our departure to Lake City CO for some mountain patrolling with it. Van at BAM will not let us pay him so we don't know his costs yet. They will build us an enclosed battery box as well as remove all old bondo and replace with sheet metal. We anticipate $1500 for paint & body.

For $1500 you are getting an excellent value for the P&B. Are they shooting base/clear or single stage?L60Boerne wrote:Greeting Patrolees, Presidio Patrol is now in the paint and body phase through BAM's shop.
