Esteban wrote:Robert, while the old freeze plugs are out, can you measure them?

I hope that the plugs are the same for the two blocks, the P and the P40. From old posts from RiverPatrol I have them at 40mm for the side plugs, and 50mm for the ones on the rear (block and head). But I think they should match exactly a measurement in inches for the P engine, which they don't.

Again, you are the guiney pig on this one! Thanks.
My side ones match perfectly - 1.57 inches, which is 40mm on the dot.

The larger ones also measure 1.97 inches, which is 50mm ...

I found a full set of PPU freeze plugs, and the more research I do, the more I am coming to the conclusion that the PPU engine and the P engine are one and the same... So I am ordering the PPU set.

Let's hope I'm right :ugeek:

Excellent info. So RiverPatrol data has been confirmed. Thanks to both of you.

I've saved from some years ago links to Motor Power Inc., and they call one engine the PPU and the other the P40, so I think you're correct on that the PPU and the P engine are the same.

My PPU freeze plugs and connecting rod bearing arrived yesterday...

Everything matches up, so my research has paid off so far. 8-)

Here are the number from the labels - Both of these kits are from TotalSource, and are made in the USA...:

Freeze Plugs: (this is an engine kit only, it does not include the cylinder head freeze plug)

TotalSource NIFPK-240

Rod Bearings (remember, mine are for .50mm over bored connecting rods):

TotalSource NI 12118-58010

Still waiting on my PPU main bearings to arrive- I will post those results when they get here

I recently went to a komatsu dealer an took my engine manual in but they mentioned that the only motors they can look up are ppu motors. Does anyone know which model of ppu motor is compatible with a 65 engine

I'm sure that the PPU engine is the one that corresponds to the P engine in the Patrol. Same engine between 62-79 with minor variations on accessories, not the guts.

The other engine is the P40, and even Komatsu uses that designation for it.

I have these two links saved:

PPU parts:

P40 parts:
http://motorpower.net/pricing/p40.html

At least one of our members here has purchased from Motor Power Inc. Let's see if they chime in.

I ordered all my rebuild stuff from motor power inc for my rebuild using the ppu stuff. Everything worked perfectly.

All, this is truly information that extends the life of our Patrols for years to come. Can we be driving them when they are 70 years old? I plan to.
