My first patrol

Do you have the original motor in the Patrol? In looking at the transmission cover, it appears the shift levers may be off center or moved. What is up with the tin patches?

i have no idea about the patches and no it doesn't have original motor. The guy i got it from got it a couple of years prior in trade and the guy that owned it before him said he had put a late 60"s sbc 350 in it. That's why i didn't post any pics of the motor. Ii didnt think it was relevant. Why are my doors different from the ones I've seen in other pics? anyone know? i was also noticing that the e brake was moved below the dash instead of next to the gas pedal.

Oh, you gotta post pictures of the engine... Somebody did a SBC swap into the patrol without having to butcher the firewall? That is absolutely picture-worthy to me, lol

If the ebrake is below the dash, then I wonder if your rear axle is a non-Patrol swap as well... ? does the ebrake have a cable that goes to the rear axle?


Your doors are correct for a 65- Patrols up until mid-66 had two-piece doors, and recessed outer door handles- in mid 66, Nissan changed the door design, and the hardware, to the external style grab handle...

The doors, and the body tub have to be matched up based on whether they are the earlier style (like yours) or the later style - the 2 are not cross-compatible without significant door-jamb surgery.

interesting....It was hard to find reference material or anyone i know besides myself who even knew what a patrol was. I have been looking at one on the coast since i was a kid. its been sitting outside a wrecking yard but im pretty sure its someones daily driver. Here are pics of the engine.

WOW... early style finned valve covers, ram horn exhaust manifolds, and a Holley 750....Room a Zoom Zoom....

That machine is gonna run like a scalded dog when you get it all sorted out.

lol tell me about it. I went and got a new battery today...just wanted to hear how it sounded. Timing is off and the backfire when i revved it up about blew my ear drums.

From your pics, the warn hubs do look like the correct ones for a Patrol front axle, and from what I see in the picture of the front of the rig, it looks like the front axle is probably an original Patrol axle-

if you look at the differential covers, they should be identical front and rear, and the Patrol's differential cover, with the notch on top, is unmistakable...



a lot of Patrols out there have Toyota FJ40 rear axles retro-fitted to them, because the 6-lug bolt pattern is the same, and the rear brakes are roughly the same size. If it has a Toyota rear end, the diff cover will be perfectly round (no notch)...

snap a pic of the rear diff when you have some time and we'll help ya figure out what ya got...
