1964 and 1969 Patrols await work

It's really just a practical matter - while we mess with the 64 chassis I can send the other one (since we aren't exactly sure what year to call it just yet) over to the body guy and he can get all the parts off it and start body work. By the time we're done with the chassis I figure the body parts will be ready to go back on. And we can do a nice job on the chassis with the body off. Make sense?

Welcome, i would keep the red one and swap the drivetrain out of the 64. Do you have a pic of the vin plate from the 69? Not sure if you noticed but the pic of the vin plate you posted for the 69 is the 64. I believe the 69 is actually a 66-67.

1) Get the 1964 going, put in a new floor plan and run it as it is, quite rough but a survivor; Would be my first option, get to know your new toy before you dive in too deep

2) Get the 1964 going, remove all the sheetmetal and replace it with the sheetmetal from the 1969 but use the soft top assembly, paint it and get a new top; or No reason why this can't be done gradually while still driving it

3) remove the driveline from the 1964 and put it in the 1969 chassis, move over the soft top assembly to that vehicle, paint it and get a new top. Keep the 69 as is. If after a little while you find you enjoy it and want to jump into a partial rest you can get to work on this without having one of your Patrols off the road.

My opinions are based on the fact I've been down the road of a full resto BEFORE I really got the chance to get out there and enjoy it. I ended up bailing on the project and doing a "freshen up" on a car and getting some miles under the belt and haven't looked back.

Well RiverPatrol and 2869ral were right - it isn't a 69 but a 67. Are those tubs and doors interchangeable? Am working my small brain very hard to figure out my next step - will let you guys know what I decide. Thanks for the input and encouragement.

I dont believe the 64 doors are interchangeable with the 67. They have different striker plates and latches. Also the recessed area on the B pillars where the striker plates mount are different.

Well my project is now well under way. Ian Westmoreland up in Jackson, WY is doing the resto for me. We're using the matching frame and motor from the '64 and using the '67 tub and body panels along with the '64 doors. We'll be building it as a soft top as we had a complete set of OEM hardware for that - though not original to this vehicle. The only mod to the '67 body needed to match the '64 chassis is that we will weld in the door jams from the '64 so that the hardware matches up. I'll put together a new thread on the Projects part of the site if you'd like to follow the work along.

Things are looking very good - we're starting with a 99.5% complete vehicle. It won't be museum quality but it will be very nice. Thanks to all for your encouragement!
