I have had my driver side door malfunction for about 1 1/2 years. Not so much laziness as it was justified procrastination. :?
Just so busy....! I finally took the door off, took off the bottom hinge which had two of four bolts snapped. Drilled those out and tapped holes. I noted that another shim or two were needed to align the door better before I took it off. Some sheet metal and snips took care of that. I went ahead and sprayed converter primer and some paint for good measure. Once the hinge was back on I had to do a combo of adjusting and I did use another shim behind the bottom body hinge plate.
Another issue that might have contributed to the problem was the phillips screws that fasten the latch mech to the edge of the door were bending/elongating through their holes in the door sheet metal. I used a bolt washers and nut to press them back. Easy and it really reformed them so all 4- screws are engaged. The jamb strike needed adjusting so as to make the first notch and the second notch work with the star shaped latch. Hard to explain but not to complex once you dig in.
It closes. Sounds dumb but these little things add up and dinking around with retapping holes and stuff made a simple door adjustment take 2 hours. Reality man :confusion-waiting:

...and he did it with one hand on the wheel. Brave! That actually is a good indicator of what great mechanical condition your Patrol is in. Congrats!
Beyond any hope for intervention

I broke my passenger side spring and was replacing it with one from my 62. I have heard it is a PITA and wondered how bad. It is very laborious. I was able to remove the upper of the rear bolts and drop the spring but the lower one spins, not sure how to turn the nut. The front bolts nut is loose but the bolt is welded. I have been moving the spring up and down to help break free. I have sprayed and dripped with liquid wrench and will have to wait. BFH did not do shit, cranking with a 9/16 wrench in one hand while hitting the other side protected with a nut did not jarr anything free either except mud in my eyes..... did I say I hate waiting?

I have removed way to many spring on G60's for my liking.

Removing rear shackles, trick is to get the weight correct, once wheel jacked in the air by the patrol chassis, use a second jack under the diff to get the weight balance neutral on the shackle. This can take some time but you will find it. I go the impression one of your shackle pins is spinning. The greaseable shackle pins press into the side plates.Someone with your skills would be able to build the side plates very easy, so worst case just cut the actual side plates and move on.

The front pin of the spring, I have had many of these seize into the bush and nothing I could do to get them out. After obvious stuff (dont use heat as you will most likley stuff your rubber bush) get a 1mm stainless grinder disc and cut between the mount and spring, spring will come out. You can then lay your spring on the side, lay a socket over the steel bush and punch the cut of bolt out, I have done this about 8 times to many, it does work !

You can buy new fixed end bolts easily and your done. Just dont cust the rear pins as these are greaseable.

Steve

EDIT - Maybe another way to get the pin out is tack weld it to the plate, these should be fixed anyway and then hopefully you can undo that spinning nut/ pin

:auto-swerve: ,
The unloading of weight was something to ponder but I gauged this simply by viewing the tiny gap, top and bottom of the bolt holes. Also tapping the side of the spring to see if it is loose helped.
When you say side plate....I assume you mean the shackle plate? I have an extra set fortunately.
It was snowing out today....but a warm dry snow so working outside on the drive was okay. I got that far and will pick up tomorrow...pick up my biggest BFH and give it one last go ....maybe the penetrating oil will loosen her up....errr :!:

Also when hammering out the shackles, after taking the side plate off, you a long skinny bar and position on the remaining plate, ie the inside of the U. If you try and hammer each pin, it will lock up. You must go from the centre of the U
