Love the roof top tent. Off the ground with limited critters! Nice photos. That road would be fun, but I would prefer something with modern brakes and power steering!

So Here we are in Tucuman Argentina at what seems like the end of our Journey.

Recently we had Fireworks and x-mas camp-fire barbecues on an abandoned cactus covered island in the middle of the largest salt flat in the world. Waking up to what really looks like a frozen sea, and in fact travelling across felt much more like travelling by boat rather than by car. We've passed multcolored mountains and painfully long and hasslesome border crossings. And much more, I have a bunch of photos and a lot of stories that I'll post up asap.

But at the moment the sad truth is that we have to part with Carlos our Patrol as we have some unexpected engine issues that we simply can't afford to fix as we're down to our last funds. We were hoping to make it down to Buenos Aires and sell it but it appears no. The Mechanics down here have told us that the crankshaft needs re-machining, and the clutch as well. Plus new 'bearing shells' (I Think that's what their called) for the pistons. But all in all the work will come to more or less $1500 US which, while not horrible we simply don't have considering that we're unsure if we'll be able to sell the car down here and we were so close to arriving at Buenos Aires our final destination anyway.

SO I'm putting it out there, if anyone is down here in Argentina and wants our Patrol it's theirs for free, with the choice of repairing it or not. I'll put it up on the 'sale' page.

Carlos served you well. He allowed for many special memories. My condolences.

Jimmy, what a fantastic journey you've done. We're all proud of you and happy that you shared parts of your journey with us. Carlos will be missed. But who knows, maybe somebody over there will be interested in your Patrol. Don't forget to give them the info about this forum.

I think you've done the right decision at this time. Not having other Patrols over there might make it difficult to sell it, and you might not recover all the money needed at this time. Parts will need to be shipped from Colombia, in case that's the route. This will mean time, effort, and who knows, frustrations.

Is the Patrol with the engine off, or the diagnostic was done by hearing engine knockings from the outside? Just curious.

You'll have to post some pictures of your journey, and pictures of the Patrol in the intensive care unit.

i hope the mechanics were honest and not just trying to run up a huge bill telling you all those things needed fixing, when it was something very easy and not much in parts. if it were me, i would get a second opinion, from someone you know and trust. sorry, i am being cynical but there are lots of folks who take advantage of people, and when you don't really understand the mechanics of your vehicle, a dishonest mechanic can have a field day.

Ok so been off the radar for a while. But just wanted to update quickly.

After a tumultuous past month or so I'm happy to say Carlos our always faithful patrol has new owners and a new adventure to start. I've pointed them in the direction of 60patrol.com and I still have the last part of our adventures to update! So there's a lot more to come! But for now, I'm hopping on a plane to Australia!
