Re: New garage build
Looking good, another good example of differences in Australia and US. No one here would build that in wood. We would do a steel frame and colourbond (light steel sheets)
No noggins between your studs ? or does the plywood nake them absolete ?
What cladding is going om the ply ?
Should I shut up now

Re: New garage build
I'm happy to answer....as long as I dont spill coffee on my mac.
Assuming noggins are blocks between studs, we use them to isolate fire and for structural reasons as well but this garage has a different set of minimum requirements than a home. I said minimum because frankly, the owner is just a good dude who worked for a living...retired firecrew....and we're building him as much space as he can afford now so it's bare bones. There will be a minimally finished bathroom but the interior walls will not be covered for a few years and except for bath 0 insulation till next year. The studs are 2 x 6 on a pressure treated sill on the concrete. The outside ply is 1/2", the roof is 5/8", after nailing schedule inspection we will wrap the walls with home wrap and cover the exterior with a concrete/gypsum shiplap style siding. Roof will be composite asphalt tilesheet, no biggie it is what it is.
You are right Steve, it's different and minimal but his only worry is wind, earthquake, scorpions, rattlesnakes, and black widows out in the dry desert.
Garrit has plans to have a little biz milling diffs or drive shafts or something like that. Heepster guy!

Re: New garage build
We are done with the structure and I believe with this job. The bathroom needs to be built out but the wife would like to see her bathroom in the main house redone before the shop bath gets any attention.....that sounds like a good compromise!

Re: New garage build
I was going to comment on the size when I saw the video. Great work Dave. What will be the final use of this garage? Is your shop going to be there?

Re: New garage build
I am the balder one....and it was 30 x 40 ft. pad and the taller door is 14 ft clear with the actual ceiling taller with the "scissor" trusses used. The last day was 110* in the shade, smokin' hot!Swerve wrote:Good work Dave.
