; On that distributor, since it can only go in one way, when ; the rotor points to number one, it has to be at top dead center.....also the ; timing mark shows up properly. I've done that but it still backfires and ; won't start. Since I'm using a different distributor (Nissan patrol), ; I'm beginning to wonder if it's the distributor and it is clocked wrong. ; Tempted to pull the pin and turn the rotor 180 degrees and put the pin back ; in. I wonder if someone sabotaged it doing ; that.; ; Joel ; From: npca-67l60 ; [mailto:j.wilhite@mchsi.com] Sent: Sunday, October 21, 2007 9:43 ; AMTo: Nissan Patrol Club AlbuquerqueSubject: Re: P40 ; distributor fit L60?; ; ; ; ; ; New Message on Nissan Patrol ; Club Albuquerque; ; ; P40 ; distributor fit L60?; ; ; ; Reply; ; ; ; ; ; Reply to Sender Recommend ; Message 9 in Discussion ; ; ; ; ; ; ; From: npca-67l60 ; ; it will time 180 out even though it ; doesnt seem like it good way to tell is the oil pump drive ; it has a thick lobe and a thin lobe meaning the slot is off ; centerthe thick lobe should be on the left at slight left ; angle when on 1 compression i use a screw driver in #1and ; rotate watching the valves and screwdriver for top of stroke ; the point just before it starts downboth intake and exhaust ; valves should be free if not youre on the wrong strokealso ; note were number 1 is on the dizzy and wire accordingly point gap ; is .0 18to .022 dwell is 35 to 41 degrees the electronic ; ignition kit can be had for about 80 bucksfrom any forklift ; parts supply house just tell them its for a komatsu fg35 with a ; p40 they might want a serial # butt they can find it with out ; it if not ill look arond for my box with the number on ; itView other groups in this ; category. ;

Finally figured out the problem. The distributor I switched to is clocked 180 out via the gear on the end of the shaft. Now I can't figure out how to get the shaft apart so I can reclock it. Do you know how to dismantle? I don't think its possible to do it with the wires on the cap is it?

Geez, finally had to disassemble two of the distributors and return to the original one which was clocked correctly. It appears that someone consciously clocked it wrong. To do it they had to remove the entire breaker plate to do it. I've spent a week on this one in a million problem........now it's running and I await the new distributor I ordered. Whew, hope I never run into that kind of problem again.
