Actually, in the "newer" models, the vent tunel was fixed to the fender as an integral part. In the older models, you have to take the vent tunnel first, to gain access to these bolts that are giving you a hard time.

Because of the type of construction of the older type vents, with felt gaskets all over, dust was always present in the tunnel, and the moment you opened the vent, all the dust ended up in your face. Long ago, I decided to gut these vents out. Sealed with a metal plate on the inside, and kept just the vent attached to the fender, but also welded (some bondo also to prevent water getting trapped there). I haven't regret this change a single day.

I'm really thinking about doing this.. I never used them before anyway...

Any thoughts on new rubber welting? The rubber for fender to body mount.

What are we using for rubber on the windshield vents? Mind are toast..

front windshield rubber? anything else work? It's not needed but I'd pull the windshield if I found something.

I mounted the tub back on and I;m almost ready for paint... ya right. This is just temp so I can work on the floor.








I'm pretty sure I'm moving away from a stockish build. I'm not lifting it , I'm still planning to run the 235's, I'm mounting this tire/can carrier. Blocking off the vents, bed liner on the inside floors, I'm fixing the rust on the outside, a home made soft top down the road???

If I lived in the south west I'm be done and not even paint it but here in the rust region. I need to seal it. I really wanted to paint it yellow but, I do not like certain tones of yellow with black accents... green's been done.. I have some Ford Blue here, Brown suede and a gallon of Massey Ferguson Red..

For the rubber welting

I've used VW Beetle stuff in the past. It's over 9 years by now, and still in good shape. Some minor trimming needs to be done for the Radiator member due to the sharp angle. Found this link as an example:

Thanks Esteban, us good looking guys must think alike. That VW welting was exactly what I was thinking and it fairly cheap.. and I'll have to look for the vent seals.. good job.

so a storm is coming, not going to get much done this weekend . I didnt mount this just a mock up. FYI these new fenders do not have holes drilled for the two hidden bolts...



I found a metal fabrication shop just 2 miles down the road for me. I could have them make my new floors but I'm cheap and plan to do it myself. I have the angle iron here already..

Anyone want to clue me in on how to seal the spot welded seam on the back of this new fender? I'm going to prime and rustolium it. But I'm concerned about the seam it's a little gappy in spots.. I also intend to undercoat the back side also.. maybe it will be OK that way..

I got the other fender off and removed the gas tank over the last few day. I learned a few things also. My fuel tank is in good shape, the skid plate not so much.. I learned how the two inaccessible bolts are accessed.. I think it was explained to me but I didn't get it at first. The fender and vent tube are separate parts.. Mine on the passengers side is in great shape and would be a score to someone restoring a patrol.. trade bait.. I also confirmed what Chris had said the patrol was originally Roy Rodgers green. And looky looky I found my other vent. PPO had placed a speaker in the vent tube and closed up the vent.. Open challenge to a better Dumb Previous Owner Mod... Madtripper is banned from playing..

I should be picking up my metal today. I still need to decide on a color. I have ford red, white. or blue..

I had started a post similar to this here: http://www.60patrol.com/forum/viewtopic ... 8508#p8508 . It never went anywhere. I think some of the things POs do are pretty interesting. Like most of my Patrols have a bottle opener mounted on the drivers door, and gun racks over a rear window. Definitely red.

Nice work on the fenders. Your choice of colors is a tough decision.

That sounds good.....red, white, and blue!.......get some painters tape or stucco tape and mask off some lines.....you'll be a hit on the 4th of July.
