Engine Compartment Paint Color?
Hi, I have cleaned and prepared my engine compartment and it is now ready for a fresh coat of paint. I read some discussions here about the color being 'gunboat grey' - but I'm not finding a great match at my local hardware store. Does someone have a paint code or paint name by Krylon or other paint supplier that has a good match? It doesn't have to be exact, but I'd like it as close as possible in case I decide not to paint areas that have good original paint.

Gary,
I assume you mean the nipple or shaft that the spring stops against looks like it is missing something? It is not, looks normal but your return spring could be sprung or just stuck. It is supposed to open and close with heat and cold.

Re: Engine Compartment Paint Color?
Gary,
That's not a spring, but looks like one. It's a bimetallic element that when cold moves the flap inside to divert part of the exhaust gases to heat the underneath of the carb. I'll say it's unobtanium.
On mine, I decided to weld it shut in the "hot" position. Maybe yours is in better shape and can adjust somehow, but you'll have to test to see if it's actually working.
Regarding paint, i'll post tomorrow the recipe from Dupont. Or you can try buying in spray cans for $26 per can!! The color is a perfect match. Will post the link also.

Engine Paint
http://www.datsunparts.com/Engine-external
Scroll the page. It's $28 per can. Perfect match
Alternatives
I saved this link from a 240Z car site. They mention 2 recipes for the paint, both using Dupont products. I was going to go this route and called a distributor in the area, and the recipes made sense to them. I opted for the spray can since I only needed to paint the water pump.
