Exhaust manifold to exhaust gasket
I have an exhaust leak where the exhaust pipe comes together with the exhaust manifold. The faulty gasket I removed looks like the one on the left in the picture. Is this what should be there or the one on the right? Just learning and want to buy the right part.

Re: Exhaust manifold to exhaust gasket
The one on the left is the correct type of gasket to use.

The gasket on the left is correct as Riverpatrol points out, but in addition, you need a thin collar there, sort of an alignment aid, but that also helps preventing a blow by of this gasket.

True. I think those collars usually disappear when someone has the original exhaust replaced. Kind of like the spring and cup in the oil filter housing.

Re: Exhaust manifold to exhaust gasket
So if I want to fix my leak what do I need to buy? I know they have gaskets with a metal ring that lines the circle in the middle. Is that good or do I need two separate pieces?

Using the gasket with the ring will work just fine. It will be impossible to find the collar. When you get the gasket just make sure the holes for the bolts are spaced the same as your old one.
