Boot replacements?
I just bought a pair of replacement windshield rests from this guy the other day, 35+shipping iirc. I see he has a new listing with replacement boots. I have the 2 irregular base ones, in good shape and with the groove at the base for the trim pieces(...you helped me identify River, thank you again!). So I dont really need them, but I figure it can't hurt to get a full set. However, the two round base boots do not appear to have the trim grooves.
I have sent him an email asking if theyre there and if so can he please send me a closer pic, havent heard back yet. What I'm wondering is if the round base guys don't actually have a groove; if instead the trim pieces are meant to go over the bottom fold/lobe/whatever of the boot.... Can someone please clarify this for me?

one more thing... compare the round boot in this sale to the one in the previous... not quite the same, right? which is closer to stock? the 4 pack look to be better condition than the single, yes? any experience with either of these sellers, members?

Re: Boot replacements?
The metal trim pieces were only used with the early vinyl boots. The rubber boots don't use the trim.
Beyond any hope for intervention

Ill go outside tomorrow and get some pics of what I've got to illustrate my quandary. Whether the set the guys selling is for earlier or later models, why do the round boots not appear to include the grooves? Does this mean he's selling a mishmash set?

Re: Boot replacements?
The change came in mid year 68 when they changed the design of the transmission hump and flooring sections(among many other changes). There is about a 1 inch difference in width between the newer style and the older style. The older version has the metal trim pieces that bolted through the cover where as the newer style only has grooved rubber boots that are held in place by the shape of the rubber.
I was able to do a side by side comparison between the two styles as I have both styles in the numerous Patrols that I have... I actually was trying to install an older version transmission cover on a newer vehicle... didn't work...

Re: Boot replacements?
Oh steve...poor steve,
I will now thoroughly confuse this with my take.

Above was my 67's set up with (1) original rubber inner (under the outer
) and (1) outer boots (this is a Mr. Gasket rubber boot with trim ring) on the gear shifter and the "sandwiched" vinyl gray boots on the doubles and ebrake. Now, don't tease me about my ebrake reminder....

This is oem's rubber which I was able to use the original trim rings and longer screws. I though it silly to have just bought these and they just slip right off so I tried to make them more positive and did.

The double shifter boots had slight cracks? Anyone else experience this? They were only 4 months or something BUT I must admit I did not send them back for an exchange and the owner Bernardo did kindly offer to exchange. I was miffed I had to send them back and all so just left it alone but in retrospect I think it could have just been a bad batch...he's trying and hope his products do as well as can be...such a small market. They do look smart and did help with sealing sound, wind, and cold drafts.

Re: Boot replacements?
The 2 round boots are both for the trans shifter. One is an inner boot, and goes under the transmission cover. The other boot has the groove to fit on the transmission cover.

Sharp 1/4" drill bit, drill lightly so it cuts rather than just punching through. I did worry it would split but they did not. Not perfect but I just could not standmiksum56 wrote:Nice job Dave. What did you use to bore thru the rubber?
