Compatible parts for Patrols

I recently bought a Patrol and I love it but I can't find an oil filter at any of the Nissan/Datsun specialists. They show only a 4 cylinder engine made that year. HELP. I need to change my oil desperately!!! Where can I find a compatible filter. The NPCA should have a list of compatible parts for the Patrol. I have heard this engine called a Chevy-like engine should I try a Chevy specialist. Your replies are all appreciated.

Hello; I can tell you that a #1302 Napa oil filter fits a 1969 patrol i don't think their is any diffrence. Also I've talked to people and most say the engine is real close to a chevy 235 with some minor diffrences. A Nissan dealer told me that some parts would interchange.

I have found that if I go to a parts store I just give them the part I need to replace and avoid telling them it's for a Patrol. There is a better chance of finding something close to what you have rather than looking specifically for Patrol parts. Try cross referencing part #'s Speck

Amen to Speck:I thought I'd add to the parts list already started. Here's some of 2 years of digging. Ignition Points: Nissan 22145-89901, NAPA SC351 Ignition Condenser: NAPA EP 300 Oil Filter: NAPA 1302, Deutsch (Auto Zone) P52, Carquest 85302 Voltage Regulator: Carquest VR 121 Replace yours with this one. It's a third the size and is solid state. The connector mates right up. Rear Axle Bearing: Bower 30208If you decide to dump the oil bath air filter.(It doesn't filter much and none at all on steep grades. Save the top piece (carb to filter) buy one of the paper filters noted below. Find the top cover of a modern filter box that matches the other side of your paper filter. Take a piece of 5/16 threaded rod to hold the whole thing togeather. Using the orginal manifold mounting bracket bolt in the rod add a nut for spacing then the top cover that you found. (this will have to be cut down to match the diameter of the filter. Add the original top and wingnut. The fiters are:AutoZone/Duesch A255, Fram CA 3681,Purolator AF3474, AC A826C, NAPA 6046. Some companies have renumbered. My Patrol starts easier and better mileage. 'nuff said Gary

Sorry to be in here again but I left off the last item on the air filter conversion. After all the above is completed, I purchases a sheet of K&N filter foam. They call it AIR FORCE Pre-filter foam. I cut a strip about 5/8" wider than the paper filter width and wrapped the strip around the paper filter. Trim length to size and hot-glue the ends together.Gary

Nissan UPC Code For 3956cc, engine oil filter, (original parts, still available @ Reno Nissan w/ 3-4 day wait) ,15208-32225. Hope this helps.

Yo Andy, Go to any NAPA store, they could have an oilfilter for Patrols.

Andy, I use a WIX P/N 51302. Also can use a Purolator MF52A, a FRAM CH-820PL or an AC 32A.

Gary....read your oil filter suggestion. Good idea. I wanted to retain the stock look and did the following. After removing the basket screen, clean the unit. Then get a NAPA 2050 AF. One end is larger than the other. Take a piece of 1/2 or 3/4 " foam, cut to fit the outer filter diameter of the filter bucket. Center it on the rod shaft and push it down. Place the 2050AF (large diameter up) on top of the bucket. Gently push down until it is level with the top of the bucket. Take the top of the air cleaner unit, center it on the bucket and push down. This seats the filter just right. Bolt the bucket on the manifold bracket, and then secure the top. It is a nice tight fit. To replace the filter, take off the top; out with the old and in with the new.
