Engine differences

So I pull the P40 out of my 66 parts vehicle yesterday and notice that the air filter assembly has a fitting with a hose going to another fitting on the rocker cover. The fittings are clearly stock. Yet my project vehicle's engine does not have that at all. Why? Was this hose intended as some rudimentary emissions control system? And if so, why on one 66 and not another?

the hose connecting the rocker cover and the air filter is just a breather hose. some times the rocker cover will vave its own smaller filter, or is somewhere else. either way its not anything to worry about

I am not "worried" about this. I am curious why engines built in the same year would have subtle differences such as the lack of any breather on the rocker cover of one and the full- blown system on another. Both have the water resistant distributor but one has a fuel pump with a manual rod primer and the other does not etc.... These add-ons get changed in the life of the engine so that is not that surprising but a major difference in the rocker cover?

the reason of this is nissan changed the horse power in there 4.0 3956cc from 125 to 145 and they changed the vents on the front windsheild from three to two from 66-69 so you might have a 60-65 motor and it had a 66-69 but when nissan changed the high end torq they lost low end torq my 1964 has 125 horse at 3,000 and 285 torq

Uhhh...in 61-62 the hp was 125 and torque was 225lbs. In 63-65 it was 135hp with 225lbs of torque and in 66 it went up to 145hp. No P engine I know of puts out 285lbs of torque. Torque has always been max at 2000rpm's...Vents went to 2 in 68 not 66 although you may find a very early 68 with three vents, I have seen it. And what does all this have to do with a breather tube on the valve cover? That simply came late so Vike has got a 66 with a later motor or someone ordered a cover at some point and the vented one was all Nissan seold at the time. My 64 KL60 has a 67 motor and it has the vent but my 66 does not and neither does my 64 L60, the 67 parts rig also has it....
