Clutch Master Cylinder Rebuild

Post by npca-danetteandkeith »

I recenctly used the #'s from the compatible parts list for the Napa #554 Clutch Master Cylinder rebuild kit. Price was $13.15  The rubber cups on the piston are a little shorter shouldered than the original, but it worked perfectly. Bleeding it out though was a bit tougher. Even with a helper and a vacuum pump. If your not rebuilding the clutch slave I'd recommend at least taking it apart and cleaning it up. Mine was gummed up enough that the piston only went half way out. I guess it was only engaging the clutch part way while grinding it in gear from a stand still.  Thanks to whom ever posted the Napa part #. Clutch Master Cylinder Rebuild

Open the bleed screw on the clutch slave, place a piece of surgical tubing or similar over the nipple, place the other end in a glass jar with about a 1/4 full of  clean brake fluid, have someone slowly step on the clutch pedal, watch your eyes for fluid, do this until all the air bubbles are gone. Sometimes you have to pump the pedal hard to get it started. When all the bubbles are gone close the bleed screw as the pedal is being slowly pressed. If you rebuilt either the master or the slave or both it is best to put fluid in them behind the piston. IE: WHEN YOU ARE HOLDING IT IN YOUR HAND PouR FLUID IN THEN PUT THE PISTON IN AND THE CUP SEAL ON. Keith
