Radiator Cap

Radiator cap - Now here is a part not mentioned on the website. Orig Nissan 21430-30001 no longer available (no surprise). I assume a Stant Lever Vent cap will work. Amazingly, Stant lists the Patrol on its website but indicates no replacement cap. So, do we think it is the 7lb cap (10328), or the 13lb (10329). 10329 is specified for the 520 pickup. Perhaps it make no difference. Please respond with what you have been using as a replacement. Thanks

Helo Word The stant radiator cap I used doesn't quite work. I measured the distance from the top of the radiator neck to where the radiator cap gasket seats, and backed into a p/n using a Stant technical cataloge. My radiator shop guy says he can solder a shorter neck to the top radiator tank . this should provide a greater selection of caps , to include return or sealed system type caps. goodlucked

Gee, I guess I must have ordered up all the caps that existed - I use the original Nissan cap 21430-30001. I just got one a couple of weeks ago. I have never been able to determine whether it is a 7lb cap or a 13lb cap. I doesn't say on the cap anywhere. But, my show truck which had a 13lb cap on it when I got it. The radiator neck is an odd depth, so it is hard to find a cap that will work correctly. I had a readiator shop replace the neck on one of my radiators so finding a cap would be easier, but they did a lousy job and it leaks around the neck.

It's funny, my original cap disintegrated right before I took a road trip last summer so I stopped in at an O'reillys and got one that worked but it was a 7 lb cap where my original was a 4lb cap. My lower hose blew apart 150 miles from home. I would suggest you stay away from the 13 lb cap unless you are in good shape hose and gasket wise.

On page 72 of the Model P Service Manual the chart shows a pressure of 5.7 to 7lb/sq.in. for the radiator. I went and checked mine, it is a Stant 7lbs but I can't read the other writings. I've scanned it and I'll try to get a part number. It's pretty warn but some of the letters are visible. If I come up with anything I'll post it. SuperK

I played the detective with the scan from my old radiator cap and found "R-9" under the word STANT. I emailed STANT for a modern equivalent and they wrote back with this reply: "...the current Stant equivalent part to the R-9 is our boxed 10228 or carded 11228 cap. You can find this part wherever Stant products are sold." I haven't check it out but there it is right from the horses mouth. Next time I'm out shopping... Hope this helps. SuperK
