P40 distributor fit L60?

Won't run? Engine, cooling system, fuel pump, carb, clutch, tranny, brakes, etc. The old messages from the NPCA 'Engine & Mechanical' category are here.

I  see an ad on e-bay for a brand new distributor for the Nissan P40 forklift engine.  Anyone know if it will fit our engines?

Yes, it will fit perfectly. Only the orientation of the distributor base (attached to the block) varies a little.

Thanks for your reply.  Your comment referring to the base, that "variation" still a direct bolt up?

I ordered it today.  Will let you all know what it is and how it works when I get it. I'm tired of trying to find parts.  Time to buy new.

You don't need to do anything with the base attached to the block. The distributor has a plate that you will need to modify a little bit. I'm including a picture from the parts manual showing this plate. You probably will need to use the old plate on the new distributor, as they normally don't come with it. Enlarging the holes where the bolts go on this plate is all that's required. Eventually, shifting one position all the cables on the distibutor cap will help also.

; I've already ordered the distributor......but I'd sure like ; to hear about your electronic ignition.;  ; This all started after I rebuilt my distributor taking ; parts from two others.  When I got done I put it in and I can't get it to ; start the engine...just backfire.  I'm a good mechanic and I did every ; thing right.  I used the old points and condenser because they worked ; OK.  I set the timing mark on the flywheel and moved the distributor until ; the timing light flashed.  The distributor can't be put in but one ; way....can't be 180 degrees out.  No matter what I do I can't get it to ; start...just backfire.  I've put in at least 20 hours trying to solve ; it.  I finally gave up and ordered a new distributor.;  ; Now you know the rest of the story 8-(;  ; Joel in San Jose CA. ; ; ; From: npca-67l60 [mailto:j.wilhite@mchsi.com] ; Sent: Saturday, October 20, 2007 4:50 PMTo: Nissan Patrol ; Club AlbuquerqueSubject: Re: P40 distributor fit ; L60?; ; ; ; ; ; New Message on Nissan Patrol ; Club Albuquerque; ; ; P40 distributor fit L60?  ; fr ; ; ; ; Reply; ; ; ; ;  ; Reply to Sender   Recommend ; Message 7 in Discussion ; ; ; ; ; ; ; From: npca-67l60 ; ; shooting star you can also get a ; electronic igntionfor this dizzy great improvements over ; stockive been useing mine for over a year ; nowView other groups in this ; category. ;

it will time 180 out even though it doesnt seem like it good way to tell is the oil pump drive it has a thick lobe and a thin lobe meaning the slot is off centerthe thick lobe should be on the left at slight left angle when on 1 compression i use a screw driver in #1and rotate watching the valves and screwdriver for top of stroke the point just before it starts downboth intake and exhaust valves should be free if not youre on the wrong strokealso note were number 1 is on the dizzy and wire accordingly point gap is .0 18to .022 dwell is 35 to 41 degrees the electronic ignition kit can be had for about 80 bucksfrom any forklift parts supply house just tell them its for a komatsu fg35 with a p40 they might want a serial # butt they can find it with out it if not ill look arond for my box with the number on it
