1968 L60 Starter Motor

Won't run? Engine, cooling system, fuel pump, carb, clutch, tranny, brakes, etc. The old messages from the NPCA 'Engine & Mechanical' category are here.

1968 L60 Starter Motor

Post by Slackd »

Looking for some guidance on starter motor replacement…

A month or so ago my Hitachi starter motor went out (busted drive). I took it to a Tallahassee starter/alternator shop and they could not find any parts and/or replacement.

On 60patrol I read a post with this Amazon link for replacement:
https://www.amazon.com/DB-Electrical-SH ... B00AWMRLGM

I ordered and received but does not fit and is quite a bit smaller than my original unit.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks
Dave

Sorry that you're having starter issues. I know there are a few different links for starters, I'm not sure about this Amazon one.

Here is an in-depth thread on starters: https://www.60patrol.com/forum/viewtopi ... it=starter
Beyond any hope for intervention

Accordig to the link in Amazon, it should work. I still have one on my spare parts with the markings S114-184. I brought mine from overseas, from a ‘74 model I totalled. I have swapped both.

Don’t worry about the size. It’s deceiving but actually is a more powerful one: 1.2kW of the newer model vs 1 kW of the old one.

Nissan fitted the newer model in 1973.

And once again, Esteban, is the man. New starter in and cranking along.

After a few months of no Patroling, it’s back onto the dirt roads of SGI, FL we go.

Thanks all.

Sorry for the confusion. Here is the link from Amazon that worked. I ordered it once but was unsure of fit due to the size difference (it is quite a bit smaller), so I made a half hearted attempt to install and then returned it. My mistake. Esteban convinced me that this is the correct starter so I reordered and in she went.
