FUEL PUMP REBUILD

Hello, Yes I'm a newbie and I apologize upfront if I'm asking something from a post, but I cant seem to see anything about the rebuild situation I'm encountering.

So purchased a rebuild kit for my 1967 Patrol. Here is the listing:

71-0185 is the part number from NAPCO.....Interesting, while looking at the box I see Nis-P 1971

So, did I order the incorrect part? or........see my situation below.

This is the situation. I noticed while trying to line up the holes on the rubber diaphragm that they would not line up with the fuel pump body after inserting the pull rod. I kept trying to get things lined up, but alas, it would not work. So, I took the diaphragm (the old one) and everything lines up perfectly, albeit the old rubber is shot and hence, leaking gas.

So, I did also notice that the rod on my existing fuel pump is longer...close to 2 inches and the new rebuild fuel pump was shorter....1 5/8 inches approx compared to the old on close to 2 inches.....Did I in fact order the wrong NAPCO rebuild kit?

Or, is it possible to somehow use the Old Rod and somehow insert the new diaphragm....and how the heck do I do that?

I know, a lot of questions, but I've only had the patrol 5 days, and I'm just overwhelmed....but still loving working on it!

There was a change in the length of the rod on the diaphragm from the early to later Patrols. I'm not sure if the kits are still available for the one you have. You can search Then and Now Automotive here, they used to rebuild the fuel pumps.

I will look into Then and Now. I did see some posts earlier about them. I will check again and see if they rebuild pumps. I think that I may just jump ship and purchase an electric pump and add a fuel filter to it.

Nissan over the years switched back and forth between two lengths of the diaphragm for two slightly different pump designs. I'm sure there was a bean counter involved. I have dealt with the two designs in the past. They are almost identical and difficult to distinguish between the two unless you do some measurements.

One question, do the holes in the diaphragm match the body holes of the pump?

I thought I posted a reply, but, no the holes do not line up when I rotate the T Rod on the fuel pump.......If I just match the holes up to the pump, yes, they potentially line up, but then "nope", they don't line up when I rotate the T Rod into the fuel pump lever....

anyway, I bought an electric fuel pump and I hope to get that installed shortly....
