Wix oil filter replacement

Post by Slackd »

Help, again. Please. Replacing oil filter with new Wix filter. New filter came with three different sized o rings. Am I looking for the one that fits outside the filter housing, below the housing into the housing groove or inside the housing? I did not remove an o ring when I removed oil filter housing and old filter. Weird?

Thanks. Everyday is a an adventure.

There is an o ring in that groove, if there wasn't your oil filter housing would have been leaking badly. It usually requires digging the old one out, it's pretty deep in there.

Yes, you are right, as always. On further inspection I was able to dig the old one out and replace with new one. All good now.

Thank you.

You have 3 O-rings, pictured below:
#3 At the top, outside the canister
#8 Goes in Washer/Retainer #9. This is crucial. Without it the oil is not filtered!
#4 Goes in the groove of the main body, where the canister sits.

From what I remembered the oil filters came with #8 & #4 only.

Don't forget 3 and 8. I don't think they are included with the Wix currently. They are inch size o-rings that you can match up from the common o-ring kits available. Next time I do a filter change I will note the sizes if these o-rings and post them for future reference.

I know this is an old thread, but in case others in the future are searching for the oil filter seals ("O-rings")..........

Nissan still stocks the factory original oil filter for our Patrols as of May 2022, and it includes all three of the required and correct seals! The p/n is 15208-32225.
