Door Pin Removal

Post by npca-bigpupss »

Is there some secret I should know to removing the doors off of my Patrol?  My top pin is already broke, so as soon as I open the door it starts to fall off the hinge, so I just want to take it off while I am tinkering around with the thing.  I am not sure if I should just pound it out from the bottom or what.  Anybody know about this?   Thanks!

Yes, but again I ask, how are they supposed to be removed? Assuming a perfect world, and that they are not all rusted, is there any trick or catch, or just beat them out from underneath? or from up top?Thanks!Michael_________________________________________________________________Send and receive Hotmail on your mobile device: http://mobile.msn.com

Michael, I have a '69 L60. When I open my door, the top pin can be pullup/out. The bottom pin is attached to the hinge of the truck, so it staysin place when you lift the door up. I hope that is helpful. Let me know ifyou need anything else.ThanksChris

hey michael,          i took one look at my pins and said no.  i just unbolted the four bolts on each hinge and took the door off that way.  of course, remember the stopper on the bottom of the door.  there is a cotter pin there to take out, just in case you didn't know. R.J.

hey michael, i looked in my patrol service manual, out of curiosity, and it actually says to remove the hinges from the body so you are going in the right direction.  it worked great for me and looks nice with the top off and doors gone. R.J.

On my 74 Patrol you open the door at 90 degrees to the body and the door lifts off vertically, half the hinge is on the door and half on the body.

broken door hindges are very common on a old 60 series Patrol. As noted you can just lift them off which is how of mine is right now with the same problem. Good luck pounding them out though...all the ones I have fixed I had to drill out.

Door Pin Removal

wd 40 the pin...once its loose...you have to remove the door opening limiter on bottom(if you still have it)..then open the door all the way..almost to the body...and at that point..you can wiggle it back and forth..pulling up on door at hinge area...and it will come off...but..door has to be open all that way(youll see if you dont..its like an interlocking tang that prevents it from coming off from being just oepened normally) pins should stay on body half of the hinge....if its broke..just tap old pin out...its easy..i did it with mine..and the hood hinges as well... paul :)
