1969 Patrol

I’m getting ready to retire and completing my car projects to downsize. I’ve had this Patrol for 8 years and used the time to find the missing parts to complete. It’s rust free with nice paint so it’s close to done although the to-do list fills a yellow legal pad page end to end.
I’m working on converting the brakes to dual master cylinder now and then I’ll flush the brake a clutch system. I need to wire up the fog lights and am considering painting them body color. Although that seems like too much red. I have an original set (5) of the steel single piece 16” rims and haven’t decided if I want the skinny tire look. Chime in if you have an opinion.
My plan was to keep the Patrol in my collection and move to a rural property and build a big shop. But life changes, and I will be pairing down so I don’t need to move.

Since you’ve solicited opinions: I assume I’m in the minority on this but I’m fond of the skinny wheels especially when on vintage looking (or when the exterior is minimally modernized) rigs. Either way I don’t think you could do wrong there!

A friend found a set of (5) 15x6 Toyota wheels on Marketplace for $50. An hour and a half drive and I ended up with the set of wheels and tires off a Fire Truck imported from Japan with 7,000 miles. The tires are in great shape and “fire rated” whatever that means. If anyone is in the Western Washington area this seller has multiple sets available.

Going from 30/9.50/15 to these little tires killed the look of the Patrol. Now it looks like a mail truck or at best assistant of the assistant fire chief’s ride. So, embarrassing:(

Same friend that turned me on to the wheel deal has a few sets of 235/75/15 (spec for 6” width rim) truck tires and I’ll see how that looks. I’ve seen other people on this site fit the 30/9.50/15 onto the 15x6 Toyota wheels, but at 6” rims width that tire needs a 7” rim so not sure if I want to reuse my old tires and risk an issue.

If all else fails I found a good deal through my Tire Rack Wholesale account for some aggressive looking tires that should fit and look proper (see ad page below).

I agree with “SomeOldIron” that skinny tires are the way to go, so working on a great looking economical choice.
