Brake Master Cylinder Compatibility

Well, it seems that lately, the brake MC has been the "hot topic" for a number of folks here on the forum -

It looks like Plateaucal took the "jump in with both feet" approach and re-engineered his Patrol to work with the Aussie Protec JB1419 unit, and I spoke to Dorian (WEB) yesterday on the phone, and he is considering that same route; and Marshall out in California is having his original Tokiko MC checked out by a shop to see whether or not it is too far gone to be rebuilt...

Well, I don't want to get anyone's hopes up too high, but this morning I found (yet another) 1-inch master cylinder that looks like it might fit the Patrol's vertical bolt pattern -

So, I'm "taking one for the team" - I ordered one for evaluation. If the bolt pattern does indeed fit the Patrol's firewall, then I will post all the information here, and in the parts database.

If it doesn't fit, then I'll post another "FAIL"; and toss it onto my ever-growing pile of "Close, but no cigar" master cylinders...

Ok, here it is- The "closest to original" Brake Master cylinder I have found yet....:

Part number 46010-L6000, or MC-01084

I got this one from Helmar for 74 bucks.

It is not 100% "bolt on and go" but this one CAN be fitted to the Patrol, without having to modify the firewall mounting bolts

It has a correct one-inch bore, it has two fittings up front (one for brake line, one for brake light pressure switch) and the mounting flange is has plenty of "shoulder" left to allow you to ream out the mounting holes to fit the Patrol's 7/16 diameter (11mm) firewall studs...

The brake line fitting is moved from the top, to the left side, so some slight (and careful) re-bending of the factory brake line will be necessary.

The hole in the piston for the brake pedal pushrod is smaller diameter, so either the hole in the piston needs to be drilled out, or the pushrod would need to be turned down to fit.

It also does not include a reservoir, but it has a 1-15/16" reservoir flange, so any of the 1-15/16" reservoirs available from Wilwood would fit...

**Safety Disclaimer** - This is still a single-hydraulic circuit MC- meaning the failure of the MC will mean the loss of ALL the Patrol's brakes. Personally, I still HIGHLY recommend that everyone convert their Patrol to a dual reservoir MC like the Aussie unit (even though it is a much bigger pain to do that)

This one would be good for infrequently driven Patrols (or for show vehicles where something closer to original is desired)

When time allows, I will drill out the mounting holes and the plunger piston, and will fit this one to my 65 Patrol's stock firewall... I'll post more pics along the way.

Given that folks will come along to these posts years after ebay listings expire, is there a Wilwood part number for the one that bolts right up / already has been modified?

One key difference is the bolt pattern for the firewall. The Patrol one is 2.75" and the Wilwood is 2.25". The solution will be to slot the holes, or easier, cut them open all the way out.

Good morning Patrolers! I bought the Miyaco (From Australia) M/C rebuild kit for the original Tokico M/C. Upon removing the old M/C parts I noticed there are some extra internal parts that didn't come with the new rebuild kit. Is there a parts diagram somewhere that I can reference for my rebuild?????? Any help would be much appreciated!
