Re: Carbs

Post by L60Boerne »

Greetings,

I too am in search of a VC42 carb kit. I bought the Keyster one from Colombia off ebay. If you look at the sales pictures from the seller BEFORE you buy you can see it says it is for a 1969 60 series. It doesn't say anything about Hitachi. So my questions for the brain trust are:
a). What carb(s) did Nissan use for the 1969 L60s?
b). If by some slim chance they still used Hitachi, then is it the same Hitachi VC42 as used in the 1963 year model?

The North American '69 Patrols came with a Rochester carb. Imports to other countries used a Hitachi, but it was not the VC42.

If you end up with the wrong Hitachi carb kit, I could relieve you of it.

Carb kits for the Hitatchi vc42 carbs are like hens teeth! I wish I could find a few. I contacted a keyster dealer in Canada and they said that they only dealt in motorcycle carbs. Oh well I guess the treasure hunt is still on. If I find a supplier I will definatley post it here

You're best bet will probably be in Australia. And it won't be a modern store, it will be some parts store that has been around for decades with old dusty stock still on the shelves. You might find something like that in Canada also. ;)

Patrollees,

Grag at 4WD Products states:

"the supplier outlines that this kit suits a 'single barrel Hitachi VHA/VHB-42' carburetor. I don't know of the difference to a VC42 but the numbers seem similar enough that you would expect that this kit will suit. We've supplied it numerous now and not had anybody there is a problem"

Does anyone have an response to this?

A trip to 7 de Agosto in Bogota probably would turn that up. I was just there last week.
