It depends on what device you are using. I have no problems using iPhone MacBook Pro, just select the pic from the Photos app and attach it. Here is another user's method:

One way is to email the pics to yourself. When you 'Send' you should be prompted for the size to send the pics, select Medium. Then use the pics from the email you receive. There are many tricks.
