This is original but it's mounted upside down. The plate with the hole should be facing the rear. It's the upper mount for the spare tire carrier.
The gas can holder is vintage but not original. Dealers may have installed them if the buyer requested it, but they were generic. It was not a factory option until much later, very late '70s and it was a different style.
L60Boerne's Pinto Patrol used to have one mounted on the back. Fortunately they used some reinforcement when they installed it. The tub or rear doors weren't designed for that. There is no reinforcement. What does a metal gerry can weigh when it's full of gas? What does that weight do to the metal when it's bouncing around off road? Not good things, I promise you.

Rush is on to get the Patrol "roadworthy". Quite a bit of progress past few months. Overall, we got it driving. It has made a few laps around the neighborhood. A few questions for the experts:
- gas tank: the original is Swiss cheese. I have seen reference on this forum of a poly option that might fit. Any advice?
- seats: the original are too crusty to save. Looking at aftermarket bucket seats option, something from a 70s Jeep or similar. Any suggestions?
- driver gauge panel: we don't have it. Anyone have a donor (we don't need the gauges - will go with something aftermarket). But, a panel would be great.
- rear seats: we have the backs, but not the bottoms. Any out there? Any conditions so long as the frame is good. Can rebuild with foam and new upholstery.
-windshield brackets. There are two top brackets that latch to hold the windshield up. We have the moveable latches that bolt onto the dash. But we are missing the other part that bolts onto the windshield frame. Need both sides.

Progress continues on the Patrol and it’s on the road. My “mechanic” turned 16 and took the Patrol to his high school’s Auto Club car show this weekend. We estimate first time on the road since the 90s (based on last registration we could locate). Went thru both pages of your thread at IH8MUD, very interesting! Lots of work done in a relatively short time. Good to see another Patrol on the road in North Carolina!!

I read the ih8mub thread. Great job with you and your son! Where did you get the fuel and water pump rebuilt? Where did you find the wiring harness? And you kept the original seat frames, right?
