Really old stuff that got saved. Here are the old Nissan Patrol Club America messages from the 'General' category. Warning, it's dusty in here!

Stock air cleanerw/paper filter

I read, and saw Garys air cleaner conversion. Trick. If you want to retain the stock cleaner and have a paper filter, try this. Get a NAPA 2050 air filter. Remove and clean the entire unit. Set aside the metal filter screen.Place the larger diameter end of the air filter on a piece of 1/2 or 3/4 " foam. Cut to fit. Place the foam over the filter tube and push it down to the shoulder of the canister. Place the small diameter end of the air filter in the cannister. Push the large end down so it is flush with the cannister top.Bolt the bottom end of the cannister on the bracket. Relace the top of the air cleaner, pushing down gently on the cannister, then secure the top. The 2050 filter is a nice tight fit, and functions well....Trigger

Good move Trigger.   When I changed to paper/foam I think the engine starts a little quicker. I sure feel better now. With the old oil filter, on steep dusty roads the oil is in the back of the of the filter and the engine is sucking dust in through the front.    Gary

Good idea!  I've heard that the stock oil bath unit wont breathe properly on any kind of real grade, either. For original looks, the paper/foam conversion cant be beat. Looks like I'll have to go that way. I took an "air    horn" assembly (the streamlined element fitting over the TBI throat, with the large formed rubber breather tube) off a Chrysler minivan, '80's type,  and tried that over the carb throat. It will fit nicely (having adequate under -  hood clearence) but you need to make an adapter to fit around the slightly smaller carb throat. My plan was to route the tube up near the fire- wall and attach a conical K&N filter to it near the "slot" at the rear of the    hood.

Most of you woudl be interested in this idea.  I grew up around early model chevys (Chevy II's and Chevelle's) mostly. My dad and I restored a couple. In the process we bought several parts cars. Tons of these cars came with the same rochester carb that we have. So guess what: Their air cleaners fit our trucks. The only problem can be is hieght. Many of these vechiles air cleaners were taller then we need. However, the early model nova (chevy II) had a short in hieght air cleaner that fits great on the patrol. These are availible from any nova parts company.  Jack
