Engine Gasket Replacement

Hello 60patrol!

My '69 engine is seeping oil just about everywhere. It doesn't impeed function and the engine runs great, but it is another milestone in the restoration process I would like to complete.

I was gifted a complete engine gasket replacement set and my question is - is this something I, with moderate mechanical skills, am able to handle on my own, or is it recommended I pay a mechanic. The P40 manual makes it at least SEEM like an easy process, but thought I would ask the experts!

My 2c would be to suggest asking/bribing a friend with some experience to assist - not technically difficult but stopping leaks is a game of learning by your mistakes...ask me how I know

My advice, because I am no mechanic, is to buy some Blue Devil additives for the oil and motor, use as directed and see if that fixes the leaks. New stop leak products are excellent and cheap. They make a sealant for radiators, but I record all mine, expensive but needed in each case, motor block and transmission.

Ready with Wrench Rene in Lake City, whom is an excellent highly trained mechanic, agrees they are permanent when they work. My 63 radiator sprung a leak somewhere over last winter and it was a big leak but we put some in and he said if it worked, the hole was too big, then I was approved to go into the back country with the fix with total confidence. It works. Going to 13,000 ft in it in early September.

I had never heard of blue devil but it seems to be well regarded when doing research. I'll give it a try, for 20$ it may prolong the current gaskets which is always a good thing. Save the new set for as long as possible!
