Cracks in Steering Wheel

Greetings Patrolees Worldwide,

I'm certain I'm the last patroller in earth to discover this but the easiest fix on a Patrol is fixing the cracks in the Bakelite steering wheel.

All you need to do is buy a tube type epoxy. I like the tube putty type that you smash between your fingers until the two colors blend into one. Once the putty is mixed you force it into the cracks, let it dry overnight, then sand off in the morning. Tip....it helps to remove any excess when finishing plugging the gaps as that will reduce sanding later.

I start with a Dremel then when I am almost to the Bakelite I switch to sandpaper.

By far the easiest fix to date for me.

Well, my handiwork doesn't compare to this group favorably. Not in the least but I think I can pull this one off. However, I'm off on a hunt in the morning on the 06 Ranch in the red 65 patrol then back on Monday. If I get a chance to work on it with the sandpaper before my next tripI will post a picture but I can tell you it is REAL easy. I repaired mine back to a condition of hardly noticeable in about 10 minutes of epoxy work, dry overnight, then ten minutes of dremel work.

Yah David, that high end I-phone you used to document our Engineers pass run would work just swell. Besides, I would love to see what your can do with you hands other than pull a trigger.
