Part 7 - Saucer Separation

As Covid restrictions are eased and we are allowed to gather in small groups again, my Dad and brother-in-law came through with an old trailer I can use as a dolly and we finally lifted the body off.

Project Dacey seems to have a problem that my Edgar definitely has, the tops of the rear fender wheel wells are bent out. Mine are pretty bad. Are there any suggestions out there for remedying that? Fender Flares that fit? Cut out? I am all ears. Derek

Havent gotten to the fixing stage at all yet

I think mine were bent out deliberately to help with the rubber flares.

I have ordered some fibreglass flares for the front and rear to see what they are like (currently waiting for interstate travel to be permitted again so I can collect them). I believe they are oversized and designed so you cut slightly large wheel-arches - but I haven't actually seen them yet...

I'm certainly going to be running the wider wheels so I'll need flares. Not a fan of the skinny wheel look personally, except on utes.

Still only working part time so had more opportunities to work in the shed. Got Dacey stripped down to a bare chassis in this one.

Undoing the body I ended up breaking a lot of bolts, but now that I'm working on the suspension etc, everything seems much stronger - didn't break anything (except a pair of pliers) but some of the nuts were VERY stuck and I had to spend a long time swinging a breaker bar to get the U-bolts undone etc. My arms are still sore.

This isn't technically part of Project Dacey, but I picked up my ninth G60 today.

A mainlander had purchased a block of land in Tassie and it had a very rough G60 parked on it. He has owned G60s in the past (as well as most 4x4s by the sounds of things) and figured someone might want it so looked up on Facebook and got in contact with G60Michael. He just wanted it gone, and was happy to give it away as long as we agreed to remove it from the property (he didnt want someone to show up and take bits and leave him with the rest). Mike in turn started pestering me to pick it up.

Given the few photos I had seen I could tell it was going to be rough and barely worth it, but I had need of Dad's trailer anyway so it wasn't too much extra effort.

With assistance from Turks we headed out yesterday and collected it. You can tell she's been a good truck in the past and was pretty complete when it was parked - but she is extremely soft now. It was locked but we managed to get in through the back, but when I went to try and unlock the front door, the floor collapsed, and when I did get the door open, it half fell off.

We got her on the trailer, but half way home the roof started to give way and threatened to blow off. So we added some extra straps and it made it home, but by that time it had collapsed inwards.

Looking around it is very rough, but has a few parts I'll keep and a few that Michael wants. It's in my shed at the moment (Dacey's chassis is ready to go for repairs). I'll aim to strip the bits I want quickly and then take the rest to the scrap.

That is one rough 60 series Patrol, if it could only speak it would probably have stories to tell. Hopefully you can salvage some of the mechanicals to keep the others on the road

Congratulations! Thanks for posting the pictures and video.

I was surprised about the condition of the seat, that doesn't match the sorry state of the body. So maybe the mechanicals are worth saving! It will be interesting to follow what comes out of it.
