Honestly, only a really capable machine could have made it to this point. We watch a modified 4Runner back off of this trail, just before we went up it. We gave up on regular passenger vehicles about five years ago. There are soooo many places you can go that no full size machine can do.

I do appreciate your sentiment. Things are different but, I would never torture my Patrol like I do this Kawasaki. I miss the old days too.

One thing about Colorado is that they have designated ATV trails, 50" wide or less. So we have another SxS for this purpose. Utah is likewise and has a vast network of 50" ATV trails. These photos were taken just inside the Utah border on the Dolores river. This Kawasaki is a 60" model that we use for running old trails and forest roads. We sold our Jeep Rubicon in 2015 and picked up side by sides. Haven't looked back. We are now thinking of doing some expedition stuff as opposed to just trail exploring. There is an off road trail from Montrose to Moab, among many other options.

It is indeed stunning. I had a Polaris SxS for a while so I've experienced a bit of off road with it. CA makes it difficult though, most of the forest trails are only for street legal vehicles. There are motorcycle trails for 'green sticker' vehicles, motorcycles and quads. Maybe they were 50" trails, I don't recall. The SxS's were coming in and using those trails, which the Rangers hated.
