Front Hub Lock Washers?

Post by yitzac1990 »

im in the process of a mild rebuild of the front knuckles, and noticed what I think is the lock washers for the 2 large nuts that hold the hub on, are kind of chewed up and weren't even holding the nuts in place. On one side it wasn't even in the right location. Where can I get new lock washers for these hub nuts? I checked the compatible parts list, but the Nissan part number there has been discontinued.

Also, just to be sure, can someone give me the correct order of assembly for the 2 large nuts, the thick thrust washer, and the locking washer?

after researching those numbers, I found the NAPA part doesnt seem to exist, pik-a-nut leads back to dorman (which also doesnt exist), dorman 615-126 is JUST the spnidle nut, and dorman 05304 is the "kit" which contains 2 spindle nuts, 1 thrust washer, and 1 lock washer.

Thanks!!

doing even more research...i jumped on rock auto and searched that dorman kit part number. it fits a 1970 Jeep CJ5 (among a lot of other jeeps), and rock auto had a part number for just the lock washer for that vehicle, which is a Dorman 618-045. Here are its specs:

Spindle Washer
I.D. 1-5/8 In.
O.D. 2-3/16 In.
Thickness 3/32 In.

I found a similarly-sized spindle washer WITH the bendy tabs on it, Dorman 618-041. It fits Chevrolet 1991-81, Ford 1998-80, and GMC 1991-81, so its real easy to find the part. Here are its specs:

Spindle Washer
I.D. 1-5/8 In.
O.D. 2-1/2 In.
Thickness 7/64 In.

I am thinking of trying the tabbed option to see if it will fit...that way its a bit stronger (slightly thicker) and the tabs are already there for hammering onto the flats of the nuts. what does everyone think??

Great find!

My only concern is that it will be almost impossible to bend the Dorman 618-041. It looks that the way you secure them is different, so you might need the matching nuts.

just a little update...i guess I was wrong, the washer that I thought was the lock washer, was the thrust washer....way too thick to bend over (thanks Esterban).

I am not sure what the part number is for the lock washer specifically, but I was able to make my current lock washers work and get the hubs back on the spindles.
