Questionable intentions

Post by Darylict »

Hello! I"m getting ready to start on my Patrol project. My father in law used to daily drive this thing, then it was retired to ranch life, then retired to the Mendocino forest, then dropped in my front yard with little warning. It runs and drives, and is mostly complete. Here's where you guys might hate me- I want a useable, reliable, capable trail rig for my family and I. I don't have the patience to search the globe for parts. so the entire drive train will be replaced with mostly GM or Toyota. I have secured a LM7 5.3 LS type engine, the rest is still undecided. Also on my list, stretching the body and wheelbase, while keeping the body as stock appearing as possible. The main reason I'm here is to make sure the parts I'm not using get to the right people and not the scrap yard. Also pictured (the light blue body) is our parts truck, deep in the forest somewhere. If it pleases the masses I'll do a build thread, but if we all hate custom stuff, I'll save us both the aggravation and just post parts to the classifieds :D

Congratulations on your Patrol, and Welcome to 60Patrol.

It's always interesting and entertaining to see these type of projects, so don't feel concerned about posting your work. You can take a look at the following thread of a fine example of this type of mods:

Congratulations on your new project. There are several of us at roughly the same stage as you are and currently searching for those parts. Please post your available parts to the forum and also requests as many of us have spare parts.

Restored or resto-modded - I want to see it, and I'm sure I'm not alone !

Please do keep us up to speed with your project, and if it helps I concur - part of the fun of playing with cars is making them what you want/need them to be and it's a personal decision. Respect for those who painstakingly restore them to factory condition but that's not for all of us.

Cheers,
D

Thanks for the positive response guys! I will do a build thread when I get going. here is the parts truck I have in light blue, and more of my white project, with the hard top from the blue truck. the hard top is rusted out pretty bad :(

There is a stretched body in Yucca Valley, California (Palm Springs) right now in pretty good shape (from the looks of the photos) on Craigslist. I think it is only $1k and might save you some time. Sounds like it is situated on a Wagoneer frame and axels with no motor or transmission. Then, you could just work on stretching a top. Hope it is useful. Take care.
