Passenger Side Spare Tire Carrier

Ok, I've gone back and forth. I now would like to buy one if anyone has one from a right hand drive vintage Patrol.

The side mount spare tire carrier is a very rare bird. It didn't come on RHD vehicles, it only came on Patrols that had the drop down tailgate as an option. I've seen maybe 4 of these. RHD Patrols have the same spare carries as LHD vehicles.

Now, with that said, I do know where one exists. It would need some serious refurbishing, and it isn't cheep.

Why are you convinced that you want one?

RiverPatrol...your resources are deep and wide. Dare I ask where Poncho Villa's gold is hidden? PM me on that please. Now concerning the swing out carrier please note that I need a passenger side carrier, it appears the pictures are for the driver's side? I need it, if found, for a frame mount for my extra fuel cans. I'm concerned that the sheet metal isn't robust enough to support a rear door or rear sheet metal mounted double Jerry Can carrier, or even a single. They look cool for drives around town but will be strong enough for weeks or years of off roading?

Kirk from Austin directed me to the Smittybilt tire mounted frame and carrier which is an excellent plan B, but Plan A, the passenger side mounted carrier would even be better if I could find a passenger side spare tire carrier as they can be firmly attached to the strong points on the tub and frame. I really don't want a bumper level carrier as I am afraid they will affect my angle of attack, but it is an option.

After further support and study of Aussie Patrols it is clear they have their tire carriers on the same side as ours. Soooooo, Ron, here is a challenge. It looks like a standard tire carrier can be flipped backwards if you cut the hump off that mounts the spare. What are your thoughts? Can you do it and make the mounts?

Ah, I see what you're trying to do. Seems we were both confused. I don't think reversing a spare tire carrier is as easy as removing the hump. There are not only the upper and lower catches to consider, but also the reinforcement at the corner of the tub for mounting the carrier.

Many a gas can has been mounted to the rear door. I've seen some use reinforcement to mount the gas can. I don't know how well it holds up to the weight and jarring.
