New to the group, 1979 Nissan Patrol, new to us!

Post by Pinto2424 »

Recently moved back to Colombia and we just bought a 1979 Nisan Patrol from the 82 year old original owner...just because! So far so good, drove it the 7 hours back to our place and survived. This is my first "three stick" truck...I assume it is normal to lack some power when in high range going up hill? Anyway, I am sure I will have questions as time goes on. Be safe!

Welcome to 60Patrol! :text-welcomeconfetti: Congratulations on finding a very nice Patrol.

They will lack some power when climbing, just like any vehicle. It's possible that some tune up work will improve the performance.
Beyond any hope for intervention

Very nice Patrol! You guys down there are lucky they were imported past 1969 like here in the States. Do they still offer the Patrol new from the dealers in Colombia?

Thanks all for the welcome. No, this model of Patrol is no longer offered new here in Colombia. Got to be careful about the years here as well. Some times when the truck is originally registered, it gets registered as a year newer, so mine could be a 1978? I will have to check the stack of documents I got with the truck, one is the original bill of sale, all in Spanish. Also have the original owners manual, in Spanish! Only thing I appear to be missing is the hand crank and a choke knob. Oh, the hardtop is not original per se, but was added on by the original owner when he bought it and it is welded in place. I would not have known unless he told me.

At the farmers market.

The interior. Yes, that is a plastic baby Jesus on the dash. Promised the original made me promise keep it in place. Why not, seemed to work for him...chuckle.

Okay, changed all fluids and we are off on a 750 mile trip to the Caribbean coast around Santa Marta. Planning on it taking about 3 days to get there, maybe 4 due to the roads and our traveling between 40 and 50 mph.

Be safe all!

Hello Wellcome to this great Fórum, and wellcome back to Colombia.

Your Patrol looks great. If you want install a soft top, we are building a very good an exactly reproduction of frame. We have removed some hard top welder with success. Please check some of my posts

Thank Paul, but we specifically looked for the hardtop...I am too old and do not have enough hair for a soft top...chuckle.
