Simple formula, no magic there - speedo will be out of kilter proportionately with change in tire height ( or diameter ) from factory original. Fit 10% bigger tires and your actual road speed will be 10% faster than it was previously for the same speedo reading. Of course, with 40+ year old speedos this could mean it's more accurate than before ! 
( same applies to diff ratio changes for those who change out the stock diffs )

As Michael posted above, 235/85r16 offers the "correct" height and narrowness to mimic stock, with a decent array of modern offerings. Here is my '70 MWB wearing that size on 16x7 steelies from Wheel Vintiques, tires are Goodyear Duratracs.
I swapped out my axles and failed to account for this when buying wheels with 4.25" of backspacing - hence my tires sit too far out of the wheel wells for my taste. I will likely buy some steel NATO wheels from Dorman with a high positive offset to pull them in by 2-3 inches.

I was looking at vintiques website a couple of days ago. Thanks for posting this as it gives me a good perspective on what they would look like. My OEM tires contained tubes when I purchased my Patrol. The tires were dry rotted after 41 yrs of sitting so I replaced the tires. Initially, I didn't put tubes in but a few of the tires kept loosing air so I had the shop install tubes in all tires, including my spare. All is good now.
