On the Koenig PDF you posted above it doesn't look like the bottom edge of the front grille of the Patrol was modified in any way when the winch was bolted to the front bumper ...
And when I compare the pic with how the winch is bolted to PFP I don't see anything obviously different ...
However the winch's front u-joint hits the bottom edge of the stock front grille panel you sold me with PFP.
I feel bad notching that clean front panel so that's why I was wondering if the winch is mounted a tad high, but lowering it doesn't look like an easy mod either ...
Do you know if front ends had to be notched to clear the winch's u joint ?

I don't think they need to be notched. I think the perhaps adjustment can be made on the brace that supports the PTO drive shaft that is mounted to the frame below the steering column. Check it out and let me know what you think.
