alternator voltage regulator

Post by Wobbley69 »

Hi

Is there any reason why the regulator has the connections for an alternator dash light but never wired up?

Can you post a picture? My first guess is that whoever installed that alternator just didn't do it. The stock alternator doesn't have a dash light.

Glad you sorted out.

The easy answer is that most Nissan in the late 60s and 70s needed only around 35 amp alternators. So they fitted the same regulator to all the models, changing probably the decal and the part # (maybe) Since the Patrol always had the amp-meter, they must have thought that the light was not needed.

You can adapt the same regulator to alternators ranging in power from 35 to 80 amps easily, since the only control the voltage going into the stator. The generator regulator on the other hand, handles the current output, so it should match closely the rating.

This is a 78 patrol. I have upgraded the alternator to one off an p40 engined mq patrol and the ammeter connection to the battery just wasnt cutting it any more in terms of getting the charge through and has been bypassed.
