Carburation
Hi all. I have a 73 G60. I live in Ecuador and parts are hard to come by and so is information. So I have two questions. 1) Does anyone know the CFM of the stock carb? 2) Does anyone recognize this after-market carb? It has no number or markings of any kind.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Carburation
Welcome to 60Patrol!
Difficult to identify that carb, but somebody might be able. I'm originally from Ecuador, but now live in the USA, and I have witnessed the amount of different car brands that Ecuador has (in a way, even bigger number of brands than the USA!
) that makes it even harder to figure out the model of the carb. Hope yours is not from a Toyota.
Regarding the CFM, there's no printed information to the best of my knowledge. However, member Johnny Roadkill has some excellent tips on how to figure out it. He thinks that between 250 to 350 CFM, will be the demand of the P engine depending on mods done. You can read it here:

Re: Carburation
That's a NIKKI 2-barrel carb- It was used primarily on Mazdas and Isuzu's. Also used on Datsun 620 trucks for awhile...
Parts/rebuild kits are still pretty plentiful for that carb:
http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odkw=ni ... acat=33550
Here's a link to a manual:
http://www.mazdabg.com/ftp-uploads/Mazd ... Manual.pdf
Regarding CFM - it doesn't really matter what the original carb was rated for - All that matters is what the engine needs; and the Patrol's 4.0 liter engine (244 cubic inches) can only pump about 240 CFM of air at its maximum RPM (4000)...
So, any carb rated at 250 cfm or bigger is overkill for the Patrol's engine. That NIKKI carb is more than adequate for the Patrol

Re: Carburation
hi, looks like a NIKKI carb. And i guess is a famous "datsun 1500", the most common carb to make adaptations and to get fuel "economy"... but is too small to the P engine

Re: Carburation
Thanks all for your replies. I posted this in the first place because I have what seems to be low power for the size of motor. Esteban (my name is Steven or Esteban to the locals), being from Ecuador you are familiar with the mountainous roads and there are roads that I have to put it into 1st gear to make it. It is difficult to get rolling if I am stopped on even a slight uphill...a lot of clutch slipping. It just doesn't seem to have enough power for around here. I increased the air flow and that helped but not enough. I thought maybe the carb was too small, but maybe some of the problem is rpms. It's a 3 speed and the gear ratio is very high. I'm at 5000 ft and it does seem to burn a little rich but the license plate says it come from Pichincha Province...probably Quito which is higher. I will read the links that you all posted and see what I find. I'll re-post my findings.

Re: Carburation
Seems to me that your Patrol has manifolds from a P40 engine. Not sure about the carburetor but most probably is from a Nissan Junior which has a 2l - 4 cylinder engine. If that is the case your jets, main and secondary, are too short for the P engine. I suggest you to reach the jets, verify the diameters and change if necessary. Primary must be around 130 and secondary 170. Don't forget basics like ignition timing at 10°, not clogged fuel filter, no vacuum leaks. By the way, have you do a compression test?
Saludos,
Pancho.

Re: Carburation
Thanks Pancho. That makes sense for around here. I'm trying to set a time with a mechanic here for a compression test and vacuum check. Just can't seem to catch him when he's there. (shop is at his house). I will look deeper into the manifold issue. The accelerator pump doesn't seem to be working right so the carb will be coming off anyway and I will check the jets.
Thanks.

Re: Carburation
I haven't found an image for a "P" manifold yet (that I know of) so if anyone has them could I get a copy? Also I took a couple up close pics of the manifolds it it helps.

Re: Carburation
Steve, you have the proper manifolds for the P engine. I'll try to find some pictures of the P40 so you can see the differences.
The P40 intake manifold has 4 studs for the base for the carburetor.
