Compatible brake wheel cylinders

Senior Cumbe tore right into the brakes first thing this morning. I was a little alarmed that he did not seem to know where this was going, because he did not first check on availability before he started pulling off parts. Then when he broke a couple of springs my concern raised another notch. After he had everything torn down, he said "Well I got them". Then asked "do you want me to go with you to buy the parts?"
So we head off to Cuenca and the district of all those tiny parts stores. Two stores tell us "no, too old". Then Cumbe confirms "we have a problem". I ask if we can hone out the cylinders as an option, he says that's his thought too but we would need larger Pistons. We go Back to first shop...no Pistons but he brings out a pair of cylinders from a 77 izuzu which are "muy similar". Cumbe is modifying the cylinders to fit now.
As for the springs, on of the small specialty shops made 4 new ones in 20 minutes; when the gave them to me in a small paper box the quench oil was still steaming off them.

Well lunch time being observed, I came home to wait until the work is done. This was a good day for me, people making it work, not just throwing up their hands, turning me away because they can't think of or be bothered with any other option. This is what appeals to me in Ecuador, puts a smile on my face.
