New Member with Some Issues, thanks for the tips
Hello,
Bought a '73 Patrol just before I came home from Ecuador. I have a house there and needed a vehicle.
We live in Denver CO most of the time. On first glance I believe I'll be needing a pressure plate, clutch disk and throwout bearing (clutch stutters when starting from a standstill), and brake parts (the brakes have a vacuum assist but I can stand on the pedal and they act like weak mechanical brakes), and a mechanical fuel pump to replace the e-pump the PO installed, I need to sort out a non-functional fuel sending unit/gauge, and oil pressure sending unit/gauge, also my wipers run very slowly (barely) so maybe some tips on improving that performance. Well that's quite a list, brakes being the first priority, but overall the rig is in good shape and un-molested.

Welcome to 60Patrol!
You've come to the right place for your Patrol questions.
Your Patrol is in amazingly good condition. I always appreciate how well they are cared for in SA when I see one like this. It has had some modernization done but for the most part it is still stock.
Esteban will probably chime in with some assistance and set you up with people to contact in Ecuador. You're not the first semi expatriate to visit here from Ecuador.
The issue with the brakes could be the booster. Make sure it's getting enough vacuum. Also check the adjustment on all of the brakes, that can also cause a loss of braking.
Good luck getting it fixed up, and enjoy using it in its natural environment.

Welcome to 60Patrol!
I agree with RiverPatrol. You have a nice looking Patrol there, and it seems that the previous owner loved his car, looking at some of the mods done.
Pressure Plate, Clutch Disk and Throwout Bearing
The stuttering of the clutch could mean a disk contaminated with oil, uneven levers of the pressure plate, but also some play in the crankshaft (my brother suffered from this last one).
The pressure plate will be the most difficult to get, but if it has not been abused, probably needs a good cleaning and adjusting of the 3 levers. The service manual has the procedure for it and it has to be done while the transmission is out.
Please make sure to also change the pilot bearing in the rear of the crankshaft when you service the clutch. Here you have a source:
http://www.bronzebushings.com/aa-921-4- ... 41844.html
For the throwout bearing some numbers:
Napa part # BRG N3075
NSK TK52Z-1B
SKF VKC3575
KOYO CT52A-1
NACHI BC11S3
NTN 52TMK804
You can probably source the clutch disk in Ecuador, and if not, Colombia.
Brake Booster
You have a nicely done setup there. Please post more pictures. I have a similar system in mine, and although the booster is a good improvement, the comparison with a modern vehicle will always leave you wanting for more.
RiverPatrol suggests checking the adjustment on all brakes. Do that as a first step. Then check if vacuum is maintained in the booster. Verify that the check valve is doing its job. Vacuum can be lost at the front of the booster. The push rod that goes inside the master cylinder, has a seal surrounding it. A little bit of grease (use Sil-Glyde at any parts store) coated on the push rod where it touches the seal will help maintaining the vacuum and operating for years to come.
Wiper Motor
I have the same wiper system as you do, since I modified my 65. You will need to service the wiper motor a little, and check for cold soldering spots: remove the rear cover of the motor and check the attachment of the wires at re-solder them if needed. Also, purchase a tube of "dielectric grease" at the auto parts here in the States. Clean the contacts inside on the reverse of the cover, and also the contact tracks in the big pinion wheel. Cover everything with the dielectric grease.
The pivots at each wiper seldom give any problem, but lubricating them again will really help. It's a process that takes some time, and getting all the moving parts out of the windshield frame needs patience.
I wish I could have some pictures of this.

You can check the Parts and Compatible Parts: http://www.60patrol.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=24Leroygsmith wrote:Hello,

Thank you both for the advice. So the brake booster is a mod? That was explains the lack of a booster unit in the parts list. I am eager to get back to Ecuador and work on the issues. Wish I had the shop and tools that I have here in Denver. I will probably have to rely heavily on the local shops and labor. Thanks for the parts numbers also.

You will laugh at this. Heaters were considered a "luxury" accessory during the 60s and 70s and paid additional customs duty (sort of a penalty) so they were never included. Typical of all Patrols in Ecuador and Colombia, no heater included.ratpatrol66 wrote:Nice Patrol. Heater delete?
For the most part you can live without it since temperatures in the highlands never go lower than 40°F (4°C), and normally they stay between 60 and 70°F (15-21°C) all year long. Of course, if you want to go to any of the mountains and on very cold days, temperatures can go as low as 30°F (-1°C).
You want to move now as well?

I remember the California radio ads of late 50's, early 60's.
"Fully loaded...Radio! Heater! Whitewall tires!"
