1969 Fuel pick up unit

we have a 1969 kl60, attempting to keep her as original as possible. We are having issues with the fuel system (filter empties while running at higher rpms and engine stumbles upon acceleration) we have done the following.

replaced fuel pump with electric same issue (so went back to original)
drained all fuel and replaced
back blew fuel line with compressed air ( this works but issue will return within a week or so)

so our conclusion is that there is an obstruction in the fuel pick up unit? we have no idea if there is a screen or old foam tip that needs replacement. Prior to tearing it down does anyone out there have any ideas or illustrations ? Thanks gang

You probably have junk in the gas tank. It's pretty easy to clean it out. Here is how one user did it: http://www.60patrol.com/forum/viewtopic ... k&start=45 .

I've had the same thing happen. I cleaned the tank out real well, and carried a few extra fuel filters with me. After about the second filter they stopped getting junk in them.

It appears that its a 3 compartmented ( or baffled) tank. would the fish rocks still do the job? and what would be the best way (or product) to back flush the fuel line? Thanks great call on skid plate removal

Yes, the tank has baffles in it. You'll notice that in the picture dumping out the blue aquarium rocks, the tank is turned upside down. When you put the gravel in the tank and shake it around real good, the gravel makes it way around the baffles.

Back flushing the fuel line can be tough. About the best you can do is blow compressed air through. But that doesn't get the stuff clinging to the sides off. That's why you'll want to carry a couple extra fuel filters for a while until all the stuff breaks loose. It sounds like most of your trouble might be in the tank though, so your fuel line might be okay.
